Just had to post Sunday my niece who is 8 was over. I was doing Xmas cards, coupons and secret Santa... She was dying to help so I gave her all the labels and taped the package label to the box and huge envie. you can imagine my shock when a day ago I started to get cards...lots of cards she put the labels on wrong I should have checked everything before my dh took them to the po. I mailed 30 cards, 2 envies and a secret Santa. I have gotten 1 envie back today,23 cards...no package. o my! So, hang on tight my envie will arrive...
This is going to be one of those stories I will laugh at someday right

Wow! That took forever!

I don't understand how I can mail something across the country and it arrives in 2 days, and I mail something else 2 states away and it takes over a week?!

I used to work for the PO and I can kind of explain this. If you mail a letter from say Kansas and it's going to South Dakota it would be referred to as HASP. HASP basically means it goes by truck because the origin and receiving destination are within a two day drive from one another.

Imagine an old time wagon wheel. Kansas would be at the end of one spoke and South Dakota is at the end of another. There would be the Hub in the center. Mail from KS gets sorted according to its destination. Mail to SD would be sent to the Hub first. Every other spoke with mail for SD brings it to the Hub. The Hub then sends all the mail it receives from each spoke to another spoke.

KS to Hub to SD
SD to Hub to KS
CO to Hub to SD
SD to Hub to CO

Say each spoke is a state. All the mail (except for local) from each city goes to the states processing center. From there it's sorted by class and state. At the processing center it's determined if it flies or if it goes by truck. If it goes by plane it's placed in a post-con and sent to the airport. If it's by truck then they drive to different Hubs.

Now that letter was marked Non-Machinable meaning it was too big to go thru the machines and had to be handled by hand. A Postal worker picked it up, read the zipcode then placed it in a container with all the other non- machinable mail going to that same area. (Example 33301 thru 33394 goes into the same container) Once the container is full it gets processed the same as other mail.

There's more to it but that's the basic gist.

Realizing that I haven't been checking on here much at all... just haven't had the time lately. But I am still sending and receiving envelopes just fine.

Hi Alli! I forgot to come on last week and tell you I mailed out your envie! Sorry about that! Things have been insane around here!!!

I am the FRG leader for an Army Company and December is our busiest month!

I had a bakesale fundraiser on the 2nd that was denied after the event started so I got to give everything I had made to another group fundraising at the event. The 9th was the Holiday party which I was in charge of. The 10th was Wreaths Across America. The 13th my in-laws are coming in. The 15th is DH's promotion ceremony. The 17th thru the 22nd is a giftwrapping fundraiser of which I will only be there for the 17th,18th and 19th. The 20th we head to Disney World on a surprise trip for the kids.

I feel like my head is going to explode with trying to remember everything!!!
