Our car service is making a grocery stop on the way to the Dolphin, but we won't have grocery access during our stay. I don't want to forget anything. I'm planning on getting a cheap cooler, plus staples like bread, juice boxes, cereal, crackers, bottled water, etc.

My kids are 1 and 3. Are there any items that I should buy at the grocery store?

Thanks,

:smooth:

What about diapers, wipes, formular baby food and milk?
Breakfast items; muffins, fresh fruit, poptarts ect.
Snacks that will carry into the parks well for the kids. Get some that are extra special to prevent asking for every sweet your three year old sees in the park.
Stables you know the kids will eat, p&J cheese, yougert etc.

Ice is free from your resort and you can keep the cooler stocked with that.

Have fun and remember whatever you forget you can get onsite, just at a higher price!!

Thanks for the ideas. Having some treats will really help with the 3 year old, especially when he needs to be bribed to stand in line.
Can I really keep dairy products like milk and yogurt in the cooler?? I was planning on just picking those up in the hotel lobby on a need basis--of course, at a much higher cost.

swilphil,

Our milk stayed as cold as cold as can be. We replinished our ice twice a day. If you put the ice in big gallon size bags, you won't have so much water in the bottom of the cooler. Just dump the bags of melted ice into the sink and refill with ice. You can buy milk in resort gift shops if need to buy more and it's cheaper than a food court or resturant will be.The fuller the cooler, the colder stuff will stay. Good luck.
Fruit chews are the best line briber ever!! Get the disney shaped ones!!!!

Jordan's Mom--I must have been getting DIS board vibes when I was at Wal-Mart this evening! I just bought a 20 pack of fruit snacks with Pooh and Buzz characters. My son loves fruit snacks.

I also bought some other snacks, but I'm not sure how much will fit in my carry-on luggage and what will travel well without getting squished. If it's in a box will it travel better?

Thanks for the info on the milk. I'll be able to add more ice as I'm definitely planning to come back to the room every afternoon, even if I have to leave the rest of the family. Where do you get gallon bags. Will plastic grocery sacks or larger zip lock bags do?

swilphil,

Fruit snacks make life better for everyone!!!

You can get gallon size zip lock or another brand name of a leak-proof bag at any grocery store or wal-mart. They are found with the other size storage bags. I think regular grocery bags will leak.
I sometimes repack snack items into a hard sided plastic container to travel with. This cuts down a lot on items getting crushed. A good sugestion would those really cheap glad container that you can reuse or just toss. Another idea is to buy a lot of snack items (like the fruit snacks) ahead of time and pack a whole suit case, to check with luggage for the plane ,with them. After the snacks are eaten during the week, you will have an extra suitcase to bring home lots of WDW surprises and goodies!!!

I was thinking of taking some tupperware or glad containers anyway. I read that with the new security at the airport, you shouldn't pack food in checked luggage. You're more likely to have your luggage hand searched that way. I've heard both the drug-sniffing dogs and the electronic equipment is sensitive to the food. Do you know if this is true or just rumor?

Another option for people who don't get to stop on the way to the hotel is netgrocer, or mailing a package to yourself c/o hotel. My DD has MULTIPLE food allergies, so I'm sending a package with her milk, juice boxes, and safe snacks
