We will be staying at CBR for a week and are debating doing some groceries while we are there - for bottles of water, fruit etc.

I was reading up on some grocery store possibilites that are nearby but since we are flying in and don't have a car, I'm trying to figure out our best bet and cheapest method of doing this.....

Has anyone taken a cab to Walmart Supercenter from CBR (or nearby in the WDW resort area)? Have you any idea what it would cost for a cab?

It would be much closer to go to the Publix on E192/S.International.

I'm guessing it would cost you about $20-40 each way to get to Wal-Mart.

If you call the cab company, they will be able to give you a better estimate.

I checked on Mapquest and it gave me from CBR to Walmart (3250 Vineland Road, Kissimmee) 6 minutes, 4.29 miles. For the Publix (8145 Vineland Ave) it gave me 9 mins, 5.15 miles....

Did I do something wrong? Choose a wrong address? Since with this info, it shouldn't cost that much to go to the Walmart - less than 5 miles....

???

I agree about the Publix. It's about 5 miles from CBR while the Super(Slow) Wal*Mart is about 11 miles. Better yet, why not look into having your groceries delivered to CBR by www.wegoshop.com ?

I checked again with Mapquest - put in the address I picked up from the Walmart website - 3250 Vineland Road, Kissimmee..... as well as the address of CBR - 900 Cayman Way, Lake Buena Vista.... and it gave me 4.29 miles, 6 minutes. It gives me 9 minutes for the Publix on Vineland Ave.

Am I doing something wrong? It's showing Walmart as being closer than the Publix....?

Re wegoshop, I did debate this, but I am kinda picky when I pick out stuff and would have preferred to choose myself. I also figured that it would cost the same or less to go by cab.....?

Went to the Super Wal-Mart recently (it was late, we were stocking up for 13 and that's what they suggested).

The time difference could be accounted for if they measure intersections with traffic lights, stop signs, etc. Heck, it can take 10 minutes to get from one end of DD to the other (OK, 5 minutes). pirate:

I don't know why the mapquest came up that way, but it is MUCH closer than the WalMart. Goodings at the Crossroads is much more expensive, but is much closer. Actually, you could potentially take the bus to downtown Disney and walk to Goodings. It is a good walk, maybe one mile, but really not so far compared to what you will do in the parks. You could always take the cab from Downtown Disney to Goodings, too. Depending on how much you are buying, that might be cheaper than the cab. I think the cab will run you close to $30 one way.

There is a new Super Wal Mart down 535 that is very easy to get to. If you need more than groceries I suggest the Super Wal Mart.

I doubt it would cost $40 one way to get to the Wal Mart. It is $50 to get to the airport from WDW.

The address for the Publix is 2925 International Dr, Kissimmee FL. It's in the Xentury Citycenter near Celebration. There is also a Walgreens across the street. It is closer than the one on Vineland and 192. Now that I look, the WalMart is at 4444 W Vine St, Kissimmee and it about 8 miles away and not 11.

Safety Mom - do you think that the Super Walmart you are talking about could be the one that shows up on the store locator at the walmart website as 3250 Vineland Road, Kissimmee?

I can try to call a cab co to find out what they would guess as a cost, but not sure where to look for a cab number...

Safetymom - I checked the directions from MapQuest and it does seem that the Super Walmart address I have is the one you mention off of 535....

It is confusing to some because there is another Super Wal Mart on 192 or Vine St. There is also a Super Target not too far from the new Super Wal Mart on 535.

I am actually debating forgetting the whole shopping business - perhaps I'm just making my life more complicated and won't feel like doing it when I'm there! :-)

I can pack a separate suitcase with juice boxes, pretzels etc. and buy milk for the kids (incl baby) at WDW.... It's just the water part that's driving me nuts.

My 4 yr old doesn't drink soft drinks and of course neither the 17 mth old. Our preference would be to have bottles of water for during the day.

The whole shopping thing might be a big whoopla if when it comes down to it I can pack everything .... except for the milk (which I can buy there).... and of course the water.

If we're there for 7 days, we will need at least 2 bottles of water each per day - so say min 6/day for a total of 42 bottles.

If I knew it would be ok to transport - I could just pack an extra suitcase (we have Magical Express so I'm not the one dealing with my luggage :-), I'd just pack up a case of water from Costco (35 bottles) and deal with it.

Has anyone ever put bottles of water in a suitcase? We're flying West Jet and the baggage allowance is 2 per paying fare - so I am allowed 6 bags - plenty to add one in there for food/water. The weight shouldn't be an issue either since we're allowed 70 lbs per bag.

Anyone with experience with this? - The water on plane part?

Water is very heavy and you will have a weight allowance. Your 42 bottles of 20-ounce waters weigh 820 oz, or 6.40 gallons. A gallon weighs 8.35 pounds so you'll have 53.44 pounds of water. That's probably over your limit.

I think you should re-consider Wegoshop. You can specifcy brand names.

Weighed the case of 35 bottles - weighs 40 lbs.....

We are allowed 70 lbs per suitcase and allowed 2 suitcases per person - so we are entitled to 6 checked bags of 70 lbs each.

We shouldn't need much more than 3 bags of clothes, diapers etc., so say 4 of our stuff, that still leaves me with 2 other bags that I can check - one can be food, one water!

The weight part isn't a concern - it's will the bottles hold up :-)

Trouble with using wegoshop - is if I'm only ordering water and milk, the charges for shipping or service will make my water and milk quite expensive, no?

I can buy a case of water at Costco - 35 bottles for 4.70 (Canadian). For all of my U.S. doings, WDW, shopping etc., I have to add around 25% exchange rate too....

yeah.... checked out wegoshop.com and up to $100 of groceries appears to be about $19 charge, so $25 Cdn for me.... It'll make my water and milk awfully expensive :-)

Depending on what you need, there is a Hess Gas Station just down the road near the road leading to the Boardwalk. I was there last week. Prices were reasonable. Was similar to any gas station "quick mart".

Yes, but originally you were talking about ordering snacks and fruit too. I don't know how well the bottles will hold up. I've never shipped full plastic water bottles in my luggage. Maybe someone else has and can answer your question.

I was - debating ordering fruit, snacks etc... along with the water and milk - but I can easily bring the dry goods with me if I could make sure it was ok to bring the water.

Ah, life is complicated, isn't it? :-) :-)
