DS8 really wants to know...does the geyser still shoot off and soak rafts on GRR? The last time it happened to him, he was six. On none of our subsequent trips, even during the summer, have we even seen the geyser shooting up into the air anymore. Did they turn it off? BTW, DS8 wants to know because he (unlike me) is hoping to get drenched! He was drenched from head to toe after that geyser and came off with a huge grin about being on the "lucky" boat and could he go again please. I think one drenching was enough for DH though.

I haven't been on it in a long time. But if I'm remember correctly, there is a sensor that turns the geyser on as you get close but then off right before you reach it. Sometimes, depending on how close other rafts are, you can catch the tail end of the geyser and it kind of spills over the side of the raft.

But as I said, it's been a few years since I've been on it so I'm not 100% sure.

It has soaked us everytime we have ridden it, last time last August.

"It" the ride, or "it" the geysers at the end?

I haven't seen the geysers in ages. We've been in Oct, June, May and more in the last year, and before then in Dec, Nov...I think Nov '08 was the last time I saw or experienced the geysers being on.

The geysers have been going the last 4 years I can remember, I will take a pic when I am there in August. Maybe it is the time of the year or the heat, but we were getting drenched every time we went.

It isnt always on , it depends on the time of the year. Usually its on during summer during the high season.

We were there on Mother's Day and no geyser.. I am hoping that it will be on when we go back next week!!

Not a GRR expert here but I do believe they have at least two "settings" for GRR - more wet and less wet. They use the more wet setting in summer months when it is warmer. Not sure how this affects geysers. But the answer to your question may depend on time of year.

Yeah, we figure time of year had something to do with it. It just seems like we haven't seen the geyser in a couple years though, and we've been there February, April, June, August, October, November, and April again in the last year and a half. DS8 was very annoyed that there was no geyser for either of those summer or spring break trips and asks me every so often if I think the geyser will be running this coming June, so I thought I'd put the question out there and find out what other people's experiences have been since sadly I can't be at DLR on a daily basis to conduct my own observations. The kid still manages to get pretty darn wet by the time he's gotten off the ride the second or third time, but there's just something about that geyser that's especially appealing to him. :confused3

Lucky!

I would have thought that our May and June visits last year would have given us a geyser or two, but nope! And the May trip was our "10 times in 2 days" fun. :)

Lucky for the people who do not mind getting wet, cool you off fast, not so for those who poncho it, it won't make any difference in the ride. DGF says I have some photo's on the home PC, I will look tonight.

Yeah, I don't really like getting drenched on water rides. A little wet is okay. But soaked is no fun.

Here I am with my DD, as we are about to get BLASTED by the geyser (these pics were about 3-4 years ago).

Obviously a man who has never worn a poncho, stayed mainly dry, then had an arc of water from the geyser find the neck opening of the poncho and go down to hit the inside of the V-neck of a shirt. :upsidedow

I always wear ponchos on GRR (except for when DS's ripped and he got cold after 3 poncho-less trips, and I sacrificed for the kidlet), but my main enjoyment of the geyser is watching and hearing the reactions of others. I'm a cruel person, LOL. Used to even have a tag all about my love for watching people get soaked! :rotfl:

The geyser was the least of my worries last week on our trip. I was so busy getting soaked from all angles!!! I've never gotten so wet, or seen so much water enter the boat! The next day I was still walking in wet shoes!;)
It seems like the geyser always misses the boat...

I was a dork who wore a poncho last Feb and was wetter that anyone in my boat. No more ponchos for me!
