Grizzly River Run- How wet?

How wet do you get on GRR? Trying to decide if it is a good idea to ride this when we go in 3 weeks lol.

I've heard rumors that they lower the water or something in the Winter so you don't get very wet?

We've ridden it numerous times. Sometimes we should of had swim suits on we got that wet. Other times only got a little spray. Watch the ride and see what's happening, it might give you an idea of what you'll experience.

It's a fun ride. We'll ride no matter what the out come will be.

Sad that it is scheduled to be down on our next trip.

Completely soaked...well, 6 out of the 8 in our boat were soaked. the other two were only sprayed slightly....roll the dice!

I think they have some of the geysers off in the winter, but you WILL get wet, possibly soaked. My advice: at the very least, bring a dry pair of socks to swap out.

I tend to be the lucky one in the boat that gets soaked. I would recommend riding right before a hotel break, so if you do get wet you can change your clothes.

I believe there are a few things that can make a difference.

Where you sit in the raft. For example - Next to the entry step.

The weight distribution in the raft may affect things too.

I've only ridden it twice. Once in April and once in September. Both times, half the raft was soaked and the other half was pretty wet. Its a super fun ride!

This is by far my favorite ride - mostly b/c you just can't predict who will get wet or how wet. I am laughing most of the ride. FWIW, the most wet I have ever gotten was early January. If you really don't want to get wet - throw on a poncho - but I think half the fun of the ride is the reactions of the person getting soaked - or watching my kids laugh hysterically at me when I get soaked - so fun

I've been soaked and I've been not soaked. I've been on the ride in winter, summer, fall... At any time anything can happen.

The geysers make it wetter, but I haven't experienced a geyser in literal years. I love the geysers. Then again, I wear a poncho on the ride, so I experience the cold and fun of being hit with water, but not the long term consequences of having my *clothes* hit with water.

If you sit near an opening in the raft, water will come through and get your legs. Of course, if you sit with your feet over a drain hole, water can shoot UP that hole and get you that way. And when you're going down the hills, you think you're safe if you are facing downhill, but then the raft *spins*, and who knows who might end up with their back to the water?

Backing up...a poncho protects your upper half. The bottom half, however, can still get wet. Especially if you're over one of those drain holes or near an opening to a raft.

In August I spent about an hour watching this ride (waiting for friends to go through the queue) and came to the conclusion that you can't predict how wet you will get. I saw groups that were "dry" (only some spray) and others that were soaked.

I watched the rafts go through the section where they come down the falls and float around past some geysers. Some rafts would dig in at the bottom of the falls getting people on that side of the raft really wet. Others would just kind of surf along and the riders only got sprayed. Going past the geysers its all about timing. If one going off when your raft is going by you can get soaked but it looked like that only happened about 10-20% of the time.

In cooler weather ponchos are a MUST. Also keep your feet up on the round thing in the center.

We carry grocery sacks to wrap our feet in on this ride. That way your shoes stay mostly dry. I have never gotten drenched on this ride, but I have gotten wet. I plan to ride it next week, even if I have to wear a poncho to do it.

The wettest I have ever been on one of these rides was the one at AK in WDW. I had to go in the bathroom and wring my clothes out. But the one at the local park here has a waterfall that the boat passes under and the boat spins right as you pass under it so everyone on the boat gets pretty wet. At least GRR doesn't have one of those.

I rode it twice in a row with a poncho two weeks ago. The first time I made it through relatively unscathed. I was not so blessed the second time. I think shoes get the worst of it if you don't lift up your feet at vulnerable moments.

It's better to be prepared for a full on flood. I'm not sure why but I seem to get soaked every single time while my husband stays relatively dry

I so want to try this ride. Last time we waited until later in the day in case we got very wet . . . and of course the ride went down for the remainder of the day when we went back.

I got soaked in October, but the weather was quite warm so I didn't have a problem with it. Shoes getting wet is a bit of a problem, but on our second ride I just made sure my feet were off the ground during the bits where all the water comes in.
