Is it REALLY 42"? Not seeing this since Kali is 38"... DS will be seriously bummed if he can't go on this. And considering we'll be using the Grand Californian entry it will be hard to hide the rides existence from him... Other than Splash Mtn there aren't any other water rides in CA/DL, right? Despite his sensory issues he is just over the moon happy when he is getting wet.

I know on Kali River at AK they had to sit in a special seat for added security and he didn't mind at all. He's at 41" and I know he won't sprout a whole inch in 2 months. ugh.

It really is 42" -- sorry! :sad1: Not a water ride, but if you sit in the front row of Pirates, we usually get a little wet.

I rode that with a little girl in the boat and she was petrified because the seat belt did not hold her in at all. It was way too big on her. I am sorry but your son will have to start wearing fancy cowboy boots that have 2 inch heels or pass on the ride. It is a matter of his safety. Also if you must ride do this early in the morning as people shrink during the day. Train the kid to stand tall for measuring as some kids cringe when getting measured and end up being too short.

If/when you ride GRR, you will see why the height requirement is higher than Kali. Other than the drop on KRR, the rapids are (in my opinion) very weak and tame. GRR has much more intense rapids, two drops, and smaller rafts, so the forces (especially when bumping) are stronger because they are not as spread out.

my daughter is 8 years old and STILL those belts on GRR don't tighten enough on her to be considered any kind of "restraint". she's almost 48" tall. when we ride GRR, i put my arm around her and hold her the entire time, while at the same time having her hold onto the hand bar.

i don't think anything on the ride would actually make her "fall out", but the restraints are loose enough that i don't feel safe not holding onto her during the ride.

FYI, i feel the same way about Space Mountain, which your son IS tall enough to ride. the restraints don't come down far enough (i didn't realize this until we were already on the ride...), and i put my arm around her and held onto her tightly the entire ride. she was 7 years old and 46" (and about 40 lbs.) the first time she rode that, and technically kids only have to be 40" to ride it. so you may want to keep that in mind if you were considering Space Mountain.

those are the only 2 rides at the parks where the restraints leave me feeling a little edgy.

The woman that sat on one side of DS was so nervous about his lap belt, she kept checking it after hubby did it up. We've been on it so often we don't even think about it, we know it's loose!

DS grew an inch in one month...you never know...lots of veggies, fruits, protein...healthy foods to 'get big for Grizzly' as we say around our house (though now we're "getting big for Indy"). :)

And for me, the biggest worry about smaller kids on it is if they are short because they are *young* is that if they want to get OUT, the restraints won't restrain them. I was there on a day that the ride was stopped b/c someone had tried to get out, and I don't know if it was a young but tall kid or someone older, but that would be my concern if they lowered the height...taller younger kids suddenly freaking out at a wait (sometimes things get backed up and you can end up slightly tilted, waiting to go down a downhill).

My DS was 1/2 an inch too short and couldn't ride - he was very bummed. But there is an area where you can watch as they crash down the river and get splashed. While my DW & I took turns taking our DD on GRR our DS had a blast getting splashed. (and don't forget to use the parent pass - it works great!)

Buy some shoes with a thicker sole and have him stand straight up.

Make a mark at home at 42 put his shoes on have him stand straight up to hit the line if he practices this with a little help of some shoes he should hit it at 42.

Or he could do what my daughter did she didnt ride the ride but got soaked. She was looking at them come down the big hill and got soaked.

Sooner - Baby Swap/Parent Pass won't work for us. DH won't go on rides alone. :sad2: :confused3 That's actually why we took a "trip nanny" to WDW for 2 trips before DS was old enough/big enough to go on a bunch of rides. LOL

Oh bluegrizzlies1 - you're a brave soul posting that! Hopefully nobody here will tear into you. ;)

Its not like you are trying to make up 5 inches and trying to wear kiss band boots. :rotfl2:

my dd went on it. she is exactly 42" and they measured her twice to make sure. the seatbelt wasn't tight around her. but she enjoyed it!
