Gringotts Needs Work

The wait times are really low during the week...as low as 15 mins, but still 60+ on the weekends. I just walked by and it said 60 minutes. Crowds this evening were insane and shoulder to shoulder. I would do as much as possible during the week and EPA is great.

Yep, just left it said 45 minutes but 1/4 of the back switchbacks are filled.

I wish they would add more benches in Diagon Alley. There's no place to sit and take in the sights. :sad1:

I can't find anyone complaining about the ride restraint mechanism. I found it to be a horror. Specifically the knee part. I was in extreme pain the entire time I was on the ride. It was torture. I just kept wanting the ride to be over. I thought, if this ride breaks down I will be screaming in pain by the time they get me off. I wanted to find the design engineer (I'm an engineer) and poke him in the nose.

Surely I am not the only one who has experienced this misery.

As for the ride its self, I thought it was a dud. Maybe the pain kept me from enjoying it, but I really thought it was an epic fail.

The story is all jumbled up and doesn't make sense. There were a lot of technical problems. Poor video, out of sync audio. Undiscernible audio. Lack of use of the ride platforms capability. Forbidden Journey makes Gringotts look like it was designed by monkeys hopped up on Cocaine.

Nuff gripping for now unless someone else feels the same way.

The ride is not that bad just maybe expected more. But if you know how the ride works it's really ground breaking and very complicated.

Not to belittle knee part but failure on your part to try the test seats is not an issue with the ride.

your first and only post and you came here.
from how you ended your statement, makes me think you want others to join in.

I think some people go in expecting this to be a fast paced roller coaster and are severely disappointed when it is not. Universal needs more family rides and this one seems to fit the bill. We've got people aged 6 to 87 going to ride this next week. I'll reserve judgement until then.

I agree...the test seats are there for a reason.

Road 3 times in past three days. All but this last time today the ride functioned perfectly. Beatrix and voldemort weren't there in the first scene and water didn't spray. I told the people operating the ride they told we could reride without waiting and it might work. So if it happens to you just say something if you want a reride.

your first and only post and you came here.

I have to ask, where did you think I should have gone?

..the test seats are there for a reason.

I go to an amusement park, I get in line for a ride, you think I'm supposed to assume that I will be tortured?

You should have gone to guest services and explain your issue or to first aid.

You go to an theme park and every ride at the entrance has a list or rules and restrictions. You failed to read them or try out the seats. This is not a fault of the ride or the staff. You said:

"I was in extreme pain the entire time I was on the ride."
"It was torture"
"I thought, if this ride breaks down I will be screaming in pain by the time they get me off."
"Surely I am not the only one who has experienced this misery"

If it was the entire ride you must have been in pain when you pulled down the restraint. Then the TM comes around and pushes down on the restraint and pulls up to see if it properly secure. Then they give a thumbs up to go after all guests are checked. Even after you leave the platform you are held right at the corner. So at that time you should have said something or screamed bloody murder. :scared1:

Instead come here to do what, we cannot change what happened.

It's kind of like going out to eat and have a crappy meal and you say nothing to the establishment. Then come here and complain about it.

Like you noticed, that's not necessarily a common complaint. I'm interested in what was hurting on you. Knees, shins, etc? Are you a size that's out the ordinary that made it fit you strangely?

The type of leg restraint it has is something I have no experience whatsoever with, and so I want to know more. I only think "will I fit?" and with my weight loss I rarely wonder that anymore. But DH has a way to go, and while he doubts he'll fit, if he managed to do so, if he's in horrible pain during the ride it wouldn't be worth it. Especially in the knee region, since that could impact the rest of our trip.

I do agree that uni needs that sort of feedback. They have to know.

When the Mater ride out at California Adventure opened the vehicles had very hard sides. The sides hit just at a child's cheek level (head level really). My son was one of the MANY ride-caused visits to First Aid after smacking the side hard with his face. It's a great ride and whirls both ways, unexpectedly (which side is unexpected, not that it whirls), and that smashed a bunch of kids into the side. The nurses at First Aid were checking DS for a broken cheekbone. That's how much he hurt.

A month or so later, it was announced that padding would be added to the sides of the vehicle.

When FJ opened people poo-poohed those of us who wanted bigger restraints. Ride engineering, physics, etc were cited as to how it had to be exactly as it was. And what happened? They realized that the restraints on the outsides could be a bit looser. They were only able to see if something could be done because people told them about it.

To those that thought it was their job to tell me how to think, thank you but I believe I'll go my own way.

bumbershoot, I discussed this ride problem with my co-workers today. Almost all had the same ride problem in varying degrees. The larger the person the greater the ride problem.

There is a small indentation up between the legs that forces them slightly apart (like the horn on a saddle but much much smaller). If you are heavier, this forcing of the legs apart is greater. And this forces the knees apart. The knee mechanism has a cup for the knees to fit in. But for some inexplicable reason they decided to put a sharp edge at the end of the cup just before the outside of the knee holder. On each side there is a flat metal piece that will not allow the knees to spread further. Because of this, for me, just below the knees and slightly on the outside of the leg was forced into this sharp edge. There was no position in which I could get to aleve this condition except to push up with the back of my legs. My muscles reached fatigue forcing my knees back into the ride problem in short order.

The really sad thing about this ride problem is that it was so unnecessary. All they had to do was make the sharp part flat or gently curved and everything would have been fine. It would have been pressure instead of jabbing.

I hope that you do not experience the difficulty that I did. But if you do, don't post about it here because the other people here will tell you that your the problem.

Goodhonk, it is nice of you to come here and warn others but I sincerely hope that you told somebody at the parks of your discomfort. If nobody lets them know, there's no way they will make any changes.

When Forbidden Journey first opened, there were so many complaints about people not being able to ride. This resulted in them altering the restraints. Hopefully, if this problem is as common as you are implying, many people are letting them know and they will alter the restraints.

The ride vehicle is similar to that of Mummy, only slightly worse because the seats are stacked, so if your sitting in the back, and are short like me, there's a chance you may not touch the ground, which just makes for a very awkward position.

I do recommend trying the test seat, but the test seat isn't elevated like some of the seats on the ride vehicle itself, so it's really not the same.

I have the opposite complaint of the OP. WAY too many people are able to fit in the seats. Make the seats smaller and the lines shorter, I say!

Oh that sounds heinous.

Please please write them and let Universal know. Please.

I'm still confused by the rather extreme restraints on this ride, given what I've heard of the ride.

That's especially good to know should DH ever fit into the Mummy (it's really unlikely b/c even when 100 lbs smaller he has very muscular legs that almost certainly won't fit into between the upside-down-U-bar restraint sides on it). If he fits in the back seat, it's good to know I probably should sit in a different row, because I am indeed short!

I'm a large person........no sugar coating it...I am.

I had no issues at all riding Gringotts.......never noticed any sharp metal edge any of the times we rode yesterday......and it was a lot.

I do wonder if I was on the same ride as some people.

We spoke to a lot of people over last few days about the restraints and the ride itself.........no one seems to have the problems of the pp..........extreme pain and in torture :confused3

I saw people larger than me get off and everyone was smiling and loved the ride.

Same thing we experienced. We have ridden many times from grand opening till now and nothing. Plus like you talked to many people in passing and nothing.

But this means that it still could have happened. The only thing the OP and co works can do it call guest services or email, we cannot contact them for you.
