Wondering if Shawn tried riding Gringotts again? I haven't read of anyone getting turned away lately so I'm wondering if they have modified the ride or maybe just the test seat was smaller, and the actual ride would accommodate everyone?

I really hope Shawn gets to ride it!

Uh oh... Were there reports of people being turned away? I'm going on Friday and now I'm a little anxious.

I believe he said that he felt as if he wouldn't fit the ride vehicle and didn't actually to even get on the ride. He also noted that if you were a little thicker in the lower half you may not fit.

Great! #sarcasm Of course that's where I carry my weight. I hope that since I'm shortish this will work out.

No worries, they have a ride vehicle out front so you can test this before you ever have to step foot in the ride. I'm assuming I'll fit but I don't expect to be comfortable at all being 6'2" and 230lbs.

I have not read of anyone being turned away, just that Shawn did not fit the test seat, I believe. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

This doesn't seem like FJ where people were being turned away left and right. Shawn just doesn't seem that big at all - so I was shocked he didn't fit the test seat. I think he could fit the ride if he went and tried, I really do.

People have been turned away. At this time no modifications have been made to the current seats. Forbidden Journey is a very tight fit for those who carry weight or muscle mass in their upper body and Gringotts is the opposite in that if you have weight or muscle in your hips and waist it could be either very uncomfortable or you may not make it at all.

No, I actually haven't tried again since the press event. I've been back a handful of times but the line has always been long so it hasn't seemed worth it.

There have definitely been others that weren't able to ride. I described it on the show, but the issue came in with my legs, thighs and lap. There is a bar that squishes your shins into your upper thighs and if there's no more room to push, the lap bar won't come down. The bar couldn't even get to my gut. Here's a photo:

If you don't fit then there must be tons of people turned away on a daily basis! Thanks for the update. I love your Universal show! :)

Crud. I was so anxious about this and Forbidden Journey and now I have to go through it again. It's really frustrating.

I guess I'm going to try out the test seats. Is there a way to know in the test seats if you're going to be able to ride - ie a certain number of clicks, etc?

Shaun - I'm crazy behind on podcasts since it's summer and I'm not commuting to work. Can you tell me which Universal episode it is? I'll give that a listen tomorrow.

That does look tight to me. I've heard from the UUOP podcast that the Pooh friendlier seats are in the back row of the ride (Row 3 I think). I will try that row before giving up totally on it. Only 5'4 and 240 pounds myself, so I carry the weight in the midsection.

Yeah, the test seat has a green and a red light on it. As you push the lap bar down, the green light needs to come on.

It was during our Diagon Alley show. I remember we talked about Gringotts toward the end of the show.

I have a similarish body to Shaun, but I said screw it and went for it without even trying the test seats. I fit just fine, but it wasn't exactly comfortable. My feet were sort of awkwardly dangling in a weird balletesqe position.

Did it impact my enjoyment of the ride? Not at all.

You must have been in First Position. lol. Thanks for the feedback. What row were you in?

Can you post a picture and show us?

I need a visual.;)

Unfortunately, Mike was nowhere to be found. I'm on call until Wednesday morning. I'll try sneaking over after work and jump in single rider and get someone to take a picture.

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to get that joke!

Honestly don't remember. I think 6. I remember it being the second car (It's two 3 row cars).

I'm a bit surprised that the ride is so tight that Shaun can't fit. I've seen Shaun in person and, although is is a big guy I don't think of him is being extraordinary so. Has Universal severely limited the ability of Pooh (is there a Universal equivalent of Pooh?) sized riders?

Banks Lee looks bigger than Shaun. I think he could have ridden if he had gone in and sat in the middle or back. Just my opinion based on who I've seen able to ride.

Shaun, I'd love for you to try and report back that you actually could!

I'm just back from two days at Universal. I was very anxious about fitting on the ride as I have a bigger bottom half.

I was able to get the test seat to go green fairly easily, which surprised me.

Once we go onto the ride, I was in the second row and they came around and asked me if I could get the bar to go any lower, then had to get out a flashlight to check if it went green. Yeah, that was a little embarrassing. :headache:

The second time we rode I was in the last row and the seat closed with total ease. The ride was also certainly a lot more thrilling from back there too!

The seats are somewhat of an odd shape. They are almost like a deep bucket seat. I have short legs, so my feet were just dangling.

I can see the seats being a problem if you have wide legs or hips as the bar comes down and sort of squeezes you in. If you're bigger than the bar or your legs are big enough that the bar can't get down far enough, I am guessing you couldn't ride.

I'm sure there is some reasoning as to why Universal does this - safety, ride design, cost, etc. However it truly seems odd to me that they consistently have done this with their rides.
