I assume I'll have to store my dslr camera in the lockers at Gringotts. But I'd also like to take some decent pictures of the queue area. At IOA I always did the "castle only" tour after riding FJ so I could take pics. Is there a similar option for Gringotts?

Not at this time. The closest the "guards" will let you take a picture from the door, they will not let you any further.
