Can anyone fill me in on Grinchmas and I also heard the Macy's parade is the weekend we'll be there...(Dec 9th & 10th).

Are crowds going to be a nightmare? I was at IoA in '02 and we watched a show which had the Grinch in it...is that Grinchmas??

We were there in 2002 also. All the goings-on you saw such as Whoville characters, the show that you referred to, etc. is Grinchmas. We absolutely loved the experience. Did you go into the Grinch's Lair and visit/get his autograph?

We were there last month and had a character breakfast at Confisco Grill. The characters that day were Spiderman, The Cat, Thing 1 and Thing 2. It was such a blast!! We aren't big breakfast people, but we'll be doing this breakfast on future trips. I think the Grinch will probably be one of the characters during December. Make your seating arrangements - we had a great time!

I'm not up-to-date on the Macy's parade. All I know (I think!) is it is at Universal. We haven't experienced the parade. The main things I remember about the Christmas season at US is - I really enjoyed the holiday music throughout the park and the Santa that was there was the jolliest little elf I've ever seen!

We didn't go inside the Grinch's Lair...DD was 2 1/2 at the time and he came up to her but she was a little scared! Maybe this year she'll want to get closer to him.

We enjoyed it so much and all the characters looked so wonderful!! Just like the movie.

I went onto the Universal web-site and it states the Macy's parade is called that because the actual floats and balloons used in the Macy's parade are the ones used in the parade at Universal.

Looking so forward to this trip...6 great days at Disney and Universal for the cherry on top!! Not to mention our first time staying at the HRH.

Thanx for responding to my post!

Macy's Parade is at Universal; I think I heard it starts Dec. 9 (they need time to bring the balloons down from NYC after the "real" parade). They do not have all the balloons from NY, but you get a feel for the event. There's a lot of Universal stuff ixed in (e.g. the character trolley, Ecto 1, the Blues Brothers car). Worth seeing once, especially if you grew up less than a hour from NYC but your parents would never take you into the city to see the parade! (Not that I'm bitter...)

BTW, you can walk the inflated ballons as they lie on on the ground off to the left as you enter the park in the morning--it really gives you an idea of how big they are.

Our first Christmas time trip too! Starting at WDW and finishing w/ US/IOA!! IIf they start the parade and things on the 9th, my guess is this 1st weekend might be crowded. Any idea of what time the parade is shown? We have dinner ressies on Sat at 6pm. I'm hoping to catch the parade on Friday night if it is offered then. visit Grinchmas on Sat morning.

We will be staying at HRH too. Is it true w/ FOTL you don't need a touring plan? Is it really as easy as it sounds? So no wait is longer than 5mins??? Really? Is it better to avoid Shrek, Mummy 1st thing in the morning when everyone else is running there and just go in the afternoon w/ FOTL?

Thanks!

Macy's parade is usually around 5:30 or 6:00 PM at Universal Studios. The lair won't be available this year at Grinchmas as they are using it for the "new" ride (Sylvester McMonkey.)

So, will this parade be going on daily or only until a specified date? We will be arriving on Dec. 10 and definately want to see it. We will need to know which day to plan to visit US. My son loves the Grinch!

Hey...

We do get busy at Shrek in the morning as it's one of the first rides as you enter. The wait for Express Plus/Hotel Keys is about 15 minutes or less. (as it's a show/ride - you need to wait for the next show).

Smiles,
Holly

Oh we will have a houseful of sad people. We were so looking forward to that again (went Dec 2002). Kids were talking about it just last night.

Phamton, do you know if the Grinch will be meeting people somewhere else?

The grinch will still be meeting people in Suess landing (Whoville.) He just won't be using his Lair.

So will there be no christmas 'activity' before the 9th of December?

We're going to be there 27th Nov to 4th Dec.

Will be devasted if there is no decorations/festivities.

Anyone know when the decorations go up?

Phantom? Dark Marauder?

Thanks

There will be decorations and probably Christmas music playing but Macy's parade and Grinchmas don't start until the 9th.

So are they finally re-opening this ride??? Or are they putting something else in there???

Could someone please tell me, since Grinchmas now starts so late, is there any way to see the Grinch before then? We didn't know they started Grinchmas so late now and booked our trip for Thanksgiving weekend. We LOVE the Grinch and was wondering if we will still see him, even if it's just the cartoon Grinch??

Does he appear regularly? Is he ever at the character meals?

I'm so bummed I didn't know this (Grinchmas starting so late) when I was booking this trip last Fall. We enjoyed Grinchmas in 2000, 2001 and 2003 so much. :(

It's not really starting late this year. Last year, Grinchmas didn't start until around the same time.

The Grinch is always around 365 days a year, not just for Grinchmas. Laphin, who posts here also plays the Grinch. You can look for some of his posts or PM him. He posts his schedule here often.

Here's his last post, which was the first thread on this board:

In answer to your other question:

Thanks for the info. I wonder which Grinch it will be when I'm there. Cartoon or movie Grinch.

Yes, now I know it started late last year and now this year...but I didn't know it when I booked my trip last Fall for this coming Thanksgiving. I didn't do Universal last year thus I didn't know about this change in the start date of Grinchmas. Now I certainly know for future planning.

Oops, I was editing when you posted. I didn't understand your question when I first posted, thus the edit. I would PM Laphin as I don't know the answer to which Grinch will be there.
