:earsboy: We will be taking a greyhound bus to florida. What is the closest greyhound terminal? How far will we be from Disney, and does anyone know that approximate cab fare (there will be four of us)? Thanks so much.

You do realize that this is going to take the better part of two days in each direction with a couple transfers inbetween, right? The transfers will be in Boston and NYC--and it can be quite a haul between the two buses with your luggage at Port Authority.

Try to come in to Kissimmee instead of Orlando--the Orlando bus station is in one of the worst parts of town--Pine Hills, also referred to as "Crime Hills".

Additionally you need to transfer your own bags as you change busses, they offer no assistance. There's no food for purchase on a bus, and the toilets are generally on the filthy side.

If you have any choice, rethink this transportation option. Look into JetBlue out of Burlington, Southwest out of Manchester, NH, or even Amtrack. Any of those would cost about the same if you catch a special, and will be a MUCH better choice.

Cab fare from the Orlando station is going to run $40 or more plus tip. From Kissimmee it might be as low as $25, depending on where you are headed.

I guess everyone thinks everyone can fly, well thats not true and alternate choices of travel are a persons own perogative. Kissimmee is the better station, right across from the Amtrak station. I will fly but prefer not too. We have been using Amtrak for years. Its 31 hour for us and we enjoy the mode of transportation. We detrain at Kissimmee and the cab fare is usually 35.00 - 40.00 one way for the 2 of us. We catch the train at 3am one morning to Washington, lay over couple hours, sometimes just make connections and have a roomette from Washington to Kissimmee. Boarding train in Wa. around 3pm and arriving in Kissimmee around 11am next day if there's no delays. Roomette includes all meals for me and wife coffe and juice in "room" and take leg cost us 151.00 total for 2. We get turn down service and a morning paper and the dining is a-one, linen service. We've been delayed at times but never had any accidents after 12 trips down and back. What can you see at 35,000 feet ? America is beautiful.

I just had a Greyhound adventure (I am being sarcastic....lol) from West Palm Beach Florida to Ohio last month. All I can say is "Never again will I take a Greyhound bus anywhere". It was very filthy and crowded. Watched one guy drinking some kind of alcohol from Ft. Pierce to Orlando. I didn't even know alcohol was not allowed until afterwards.
We stopped at the bus stop in Kissimmee. But I really could not tell you much about it because it was dark and we only stopped there for about 5 minutes. We did stop in Orlando and they make you get off the bus there because it is a full-service bus stop. It was very crowded and loud. I have no clue have far from Disney but if you have any other option to get to Orlando, I would take the other option in a heartbeat.

Which is why I also suggested Amtrack as an option.

And BTW--having driven through every state in the continental US--most of them at least several times, I'm sorry to tell you that quite a bit of America is unfortunately far from beautiful--at least what you're going to see by bus between NH and FL.

Please, please, please really think about this before doing it. Do you have kids? I would worry about my safety and the safety of my family. DH has had to arrest many people off of Greyhound, literally pulling them off of the bus. These people often have warrants related to drugs, domestic violence, burglaries, etc. Amtrak is a really great alternative.

This is so true. My great aunts boyfriend of 50 years (long story behind that one) drove for one of Greyhounds feeder lines for about 40 years, and you wouldn't believe the stories he had to tell. Scarey stuff.

I think Amtrack is an excellent alternative to those who don't want to fly. It's more comfortable, a lot less riff raff, the lavs are generally cleaner and more spacious.

OKAY! We have now changed plans and went to a train! It sounds like fun. Thanks.
