Looking at getting the 1 day ticket to Universal with the shuttle from DLand. Wonder if anyone has done this and how long it takes to get to Universal (travel time) each way. If we take the metro transit system it says 2 hrs. 45 minutes. Trying to cut our time down if possible. Also do you have to go home at one time, or if you get tired and want to leave early are there shuttles that go back earlier?

I don't know about Greyline but you should be able to take the Amtrak/Metrolink trains and transfer to the Red Line subway to Universal in much less time than 2hr 45min. Probably no more than half that time.

It's a good company but the issue is, they are picking up a lot of guests in the morning and then you go to their depot where you get off and stand in line with 4 to 10 bus loads of guests. Then you wait for another bus to get on and then fight traffic to Universal.

Typically - pick up is between 8:10 and 8:30 and you get to Universal 2+ hours later.

If you can stand it, I would rent a car and leave around 7:00am - use the car pool lanes all the way on the 5 to the 91 and then take the 710 to the 10 East to the 101 North to Universal. It's 33 miles and will take you an hour and 20 minutes but, you will still be there at opening and, I've found that in the first 2 hours before all the tour buses get there, you can ride everything you want with no lines at all.

Taxi would be $120 each way with traffic unless you find a flat rate cab.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the driving information, but I was wondering about rush hour traffic? I live in a small-town (9000 people), where the biggest traffic jam is Saturday night around the Dairy Queen. :faint:

If you decide to drive, this is not the quickest, nor the most efficient route. (Well, I don't know for sure, but I'm a local and the only way I'd take all those freeways would be if I was stuck on one and had to get off to reach my destination. I live by Universal)

Take the 5 north all the way to the 101 north. Using the carpool lane when you can is a good idea. If you leave by 7am, it'll take you 45min-1hr on weekdays. 45min tops on weekends at the same time. Rush hour traffic starts about 7:30 and lasts til about 9:30. It could possibly take 2hrs or more, but generally, 1.5hrs. Weekends are a crapshoot, you never really know, but chances are, you're good most of the morning. The traffic isn't all that scary, the freeways will just be packed. No one going much faster than 20mph.

Sorry I can't answer your original question!
