Greeting cards

I love getting cards and sending them. Now my husband could care less if he even gets a card on our anniversary. I stockpile when their are sales or I find cards I like. I also love making cards but it can get expensive. I you limit yourself to a few generic designs & stamps. For one year you could come up with 1 birthday design and 1 anniversary design which wouldn't cost you a lot. Switch it up the next year. I love Stampin Up but it isn't always the best deal. You can search for the company and look for some ideas.
I don't know if this link will work but this card is probably 2 stamp sets, a few inks and just white paper. Just an idea. Check out some local FB groups, garage sales etc over the summer. http://scrapbookandcardstodaymag.typepad.com/.a/6a0105349d6b3d970c01bb083a6d0d970d-pi

This set is my current favorite. You need 2 inks, 2 stamp sets, white paper. I just sold 3 similar sets for $10.00 total on a local FB group. http://laurasstamppad.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Thoughts-Prayers-4.jpg

That looks like a fun idea to make my own. I could see doing just one design a year and then switching it up the next year. I'll stay on the lookout for ideas to do this. I would think it wouldn't cost too much per card if I did them all the same for the year. Whatever I do, I need to make it EASY and quick! Here I'm hoping to be better about this...I set up cards for everyone in my family for this month a few days ago...and I just realized I forgot my sister-in-law on my husband's side has a b-day tomorrow! It's kind of embarrassing that I almost always forget to send her anything! ...once I get in the habit I think I'll write them all out once a month and then mail them out a few days before the day.

I also enjoy sending cards and receiving cards. Sometimes it's fun to just send a card for no particular reason at all. Last Halloween, I sent fun cards to all my nieces and nephews and tucked a $5 gift card to Chick-Fil-A in each for them to have a milkshake and fries on me. (Note that they ranged in age from 17 to 24, so not little kids.) Every single one of them was so excited to get fun mail - I got texts from all of them thanking me.

I was going to suggest Current for cards, as well. I buy the 99-cent or 2/$4 cards at Walgreens often. Big Lots and Dollar General stock American Greetings cards (my sister works for AG), the less-fancy styles than you see at CVS or Target, which can run $5-6 each. When Walgreens sends me a coupon for an extra chunk of points with a $25 purchase I go buy cards for whatever the upcoming holiday is. I bought Father's Day cards for husband/dad/FIL and birthday cards for my husband last month and got like 5000 points. Then I'll use my points to get free cards later.

dminnie The expensive part is when you keep wanting more stamp sets, embellishments, paper....but, it is fun hobby. You really only need a few items to get started. Depending where you live there might be some classes. I use to go to classes at adult ed and it was fun to make and fun to send. I think it is great you are helping to bring back snail mail :)

(I just ordered someone stamps and when I posted to Instagram it was the most likes any photo of mine has ever gotten, LOL. I bought the sweet treats and cherry blossom ones.)

A hallmark near me was going out of business, I got a bunch of cards for 50% off and then 75% off (people were leaving them behind as they didn't have envelopes, I just grabbed an envelope from behind another card as it didn't really matter at that point). I have at least a dozen generic birthday cards and paid less than 50 cents for each.

The hallmark nearest me just went out of business and I stocked up as well. Huge deals on cards, up to 90% off (since none of the big holidays were around now those were an extra percent off, for some reason they still had Christmas/Easter/Valentine's cards).

This.
A few ideas: go to somewhere like Michael's, they usually have a big box of assorted greeting cards. You can buy a box that has like 50 assorted occasion cards in it for maybe $20 or $25.
Or Buy them at the dollar store.
Or get a program that lets you make your own at home. I used to have a program that was from American Greetings I think, but it allowed you to make your own cards on the computer and print them onto cardstock.
But honestly, I think most people feel the way Disney Christa and I do. They don't care that much.
I could care less about the card itself but heartfelt, personal sentiments from those close to me I cherish. OP, don't worry about the medium - concentrate on the message. Even a pretty piece of note paper or (gasp) an e-mail is fine to say that you're thinking about someone and express your feelings.

My DSis sends cards for every.imaginable.occasion. - always beautiful, glossy, expensive, joke-y type ones and the only thing written in them is her signature. She should spare herself the trouble - my entire household throws that kind away immediately.

We've printed our own cards for years. By now we have a few different versions of software so a good variety of cards. We purchase cardstock in bulk so it's cheap and always have a good supply on hand. I don't even have the excuse of "I ran out of time to go to the store and buy a card" because it literally takes me just 5 minutes at home. If I know several birthdays or such are coming up, I'll take a half hour or so and make a bunch of different cards. But it's real quick for those one-offs like a sympathy card, retirement or forgotten anniversary.
When we got our first computer in 1994, we had the Hallmark software, used it for about 15 years, but just took too much time. Easier just to pickup a card at the store.

I make my own cards now. I spend too much time on them but I think most of the people I send them to (not that many) are ones who appreciate it. I like the more elaborate kinds-pop up, intricate dies, gems on...so only for those that I think will enjoy the end product as well as the sentiment.
