Tony, I didn't follow the original thread to the end to know what classifies as a "Super-Owner, Mega-Morpher or shill bidders" are, but I'm curious. Feel free to repost those definitions! :confused3

Super-owner People buying multi resale contract under other family names and trust

Mega-Morpher those buying distressed points and transfering them into current UY making them new points.

Shill bidders Several alias' nad family making bids or posting on how great something is only to find out they have interest in that item.

Hope this helps Tony correct if I'm wrong.

I have rented twice since joining in 1992. The first time was to a family friend so they could see what we rave about :thumbsup2 The second time was to a member who had posted a need on another board. I wasn't stretched for points for a change, so I offered to help. I was very disappointed that the member tried to get me down to $8 a point. Shouldn't she know better? :confused3 Although I held firm to $10, it left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't plan to rent again unless it is to a personal friend.

I do think it is nice that we have the option, but I am disgusted by the people that deliberately cheat the system for profit.

..I'm already into my 2008 allocation (for planning purposes; I can't actually make my November 2007 ressie until Feb because I need my 2008 points to do it)

A little OT, but I caught this and wanted to make sure you realized that you don't have to wait to make your Nov. 2007 reservation just because you need your 2008 points. I'm assuming your UY is February and that's why you think you need to wait until then. That's not the case, although it's a common misunderstanding. Go ahead and use your 11 month booking window, you don't have to wait for your UY to hit in order to borrow those points. All that matters is that those points would be available to borrow at the time of your trip. HTH!

What are distressed points?
Distressed points are points those you have left but can't use or bank for a multitude of reasons. Rather than letting the points expire some people choose to transfer/rent them at a low price (maybe as low as the maintenance fee) on the theory that it is better to get something instead of nothing.

I don't rent out...usually I use every point I have :yay:

I would, however, like to have the option to obtain more than one transfer per year for my own use.
I am planning to take my in-laws along with my husband's brother/wife in June 2007 and am going to be about 150 points short. My plan originally had been to accumulate them in about 50 point blocks between now and my 7 month booking window for a non-home resort (OKW) so that it would be more affordable. Now I will have to look for the entire amount I need and possibly have to take more than I need due to the rule enforcement.

With use of modifiers in the computer system, it would be easy to identify the points for these types of transfers as ones that would be required to be used to make a reservation only in the DVC members name. Come to think of it, modifiers would be an excellent way of tagging transferred points to keep them from "morphing" resorts and use years. We do this for medical coding and billing and it works very well.

I think that a better interpretation of the rule (which the first time I read it I thought that it meant) would be to allow you to either transfer in or transfer out in a particular use year and limit the transfers to 3. This would allow the average DVC owner to either dispose of their points for a particular use year if they were not going to use them or to accumulate the points necessary to plan a family gathering.

I am in favor of Member Services getting the software upgrades that they need to fix the point morphing problem instead of punishing the average DVC member for the actions of a few profiteers out there.

This is a classic case of punishing everyone instead of taking action against the offenders :furious:
Offenders would be easy to identify just by doing a simple query on the computer system :surfweb:

So currently 80% are Ok with it in some form or another?
