Green with envy...

Yep, some uf us have paid in full....we did it through DVC for various reasons....but at this time a resale would be a great option.

Congrats on everything! My dh and I have been reading your trip report and I agree with everyone else...you're a very amusing writer!

Oh, and I might as well answer your other questions...Use Year is the month of the year that your points are deposited into your account...kind of your DVC once a year pay day. It determines your banking deadlines....its best to have a use year month just before you generally take your vacation. That way if you have to cancel, you can still bank your points if you have to. Then again, its not always a huge big deal. We have a March use year and usually travel in the fall...and its never been a problem for us...then again, we've never had to cancel a trip.

And in a resale you can start with any number of points you want.

Hey Rick...thanks for the VERY sweet PM!! I tried to pm you back, but your mailbox was full!!! When you empty it...let me know and I will write you again!!

Now, the important question is....WHERE are you going to buy??!!!

So glad to hear you'll be joining the DVC family.

BTW - I guessed that you were the guy on the left also!!!

Congratulations on your future DVC purchase & also on your upcoming 15 year anniversary! :D

I love a story with a happy ending. Congratulations to you both.

Using cash actually makes buying a resale much easier. There is no minimum when you buy resale, but a seller cannot sell part of a contract. If they have a contract for 150 points, they cannot sell you 50 points out of that contract.

Many people have more than one contract because they added on points - they bought 150 points and then bought another 60 points later. They could sell the 60 point contract and you could buy that.

Good luck with everything.

Prince Charming with a beard? No way! Using my crackerjack detective skills I was also able to deduce you were the "lefty". ;)

Good luck finding a contract that works for you -- there's lots of them out there so just keep looking until you find the perfect one.

Congrats on all the great things in your life. :goodvibes

I am so thrilled to read the updates to your thread RickinNYC::yes:: I am sooo excited for you because I remember how I felt just three months ago when I talked my Rick (DH) into DVC:sunny:

I am also a military brat and your post about home was so very sweet. I know where you are coming from...not that I would have wanted to be other than me, a military brat!!!

We bought our DVC, 230 points for cash. Otherwise, I don't think I could have convinced DH. We don't like incurring debt. It is a great feeling knowing that I only have to pay maintenance fees for the next 38 years:earsboy:

Have fun saving for such a worthy purchase...

OMG how Awesome.Welcome Home.

You will Love DVC.It is the best purchase we ever made.We love everythimg about it.

Where are you wanting to buy?We own at BCV and VWL and Love both.We have stayed at BWV and OKW and Love them also. Each is unique in its own way.

I am so happy for you two.

Misty

Congratualtions on your ceremony and your DVC! I may be wrong, but I thought the minimum was 150 no matter who you go through. We bought at the BWV through a reseller about 2 years ago and have had absolutely no regrets. And now, since you can reserve a BW View at 11 months it is even more awesome.

THis is one of the best "feel good " threads I have read on the DIS and DVC board EVER!

BTW, Rick you ARE a writer, you just aren't getting paid for it!

Congratulations on the upcoming, party etc. and DVC purchase! I would recommend paying in full also. We did it with a twist though, and you might consider the same thing. We have a Visa that gives us frequent flyer points. We put the whole thing on there and paid it off the first invoice so we had a good start on some free airline tix to WDW! We bought our first 230 points that way and added on another 150 the next year when we came into a little money.

In reading this whole thread, I have forgotten if you were looking for BWV or SSR. Either way, I think you would be happy with any of them. Since you seem to enjoy Pleasure Island, SSR would be a good fit too. The great thing about DVC is how flexible it is! We kind of get stuck in the rut though with our home resort of OKW. What can I say, we just love the place! Besides, our low dues and lower points make it hard to stay elsewhere! We are too stingy with our points for that!

I might suggest that you actually try to buy ahead of your 2005 date though. Put as much down as possible, and pay it off by your target date. My reasoning for this is the fact that the cost keeps rising, and by fall of 2005, it COULD be over $100/point. You might be money ahead to do it now.

I'm so loving this thread too! :)

Rick, my DH bought me DVC as a wedding present (ok well financed it for me heehee). And I've got to say as wedding presents go it's been the absolute best most romantic wonderful gift ever! We've been at "home" at BCV every anniversary so far, and it just makes it that much more magical knowing that we can spend the next 40 or so anniversarys there if we want. We ate our 1 year old leftover wedding cake (which surprisingly enough didn't give us food poisoning) on the balcony at BCV while watching the Illuminations fireworks and drinking champagne. Talk about special memories!

Congratulations, you are such a lucky guy!!!

Rick,

I just called my DVC guide and on her voice message, she stated that if you buy now there are no payments until 4/05 or 5/05. If you purchased now you won't have any future increases in point price. Go for it!

oo oo oo oo oo! Look into it now! You have us all excited. Not many relationships these days last as long as yours has. I hope you have many more years together, and many more WDW vacations to remember!

Oh MY Gosh I have been following this thread and was unable to get on the site for a few days ..What a nice surprise!!! CONGRATULATIONS!

You are really good. I may need some advice when I have some convincing to do! :teeth:

What a cute story. :) I hope you'll find the right DVC contract soon, and then we can all say "Welcome Home" to the two of you.

BTW, I did want to add that basically the smallest resale you can possibly buy is 25pts. They are never really that small though, I've only seen 1 that size before. Usually the smallest you can typically find is around 50pts.

And, to clarify, you can definitely have a master contract (initial DVC contract) of smaller than 150pts if you go the resale route. Once you're "in the system" as a DVC member, you could even do a small add-on and still own less than 150pts.

Of course, owning less than 150pts is only an option for people who either don't travel to WDW every year, or people who stay in Studios.

Anyway, if you have other questions, try starting a new thread w/ the appropriate subject. It might get more responses. Good luck!

ewwww, Rick, you're good. I'm so happy for you! I second everyone, go for it now!

Hi RickinNYC, I have some spreadsheets for buying new vs resale. If you like, I can go into some further cost analysys.... If you want to buy new, 2 quick things,

1, find a friend in NY that has DVC and make them the reference; they get a spiff.
2. Do it quick and finance it. They keep rasing the prices, and it may wind up costing a lot more.

DVC does the financing internally...

I miss seeing you around, but it looks like a lot of the crew found you....

Happy Birthdays to you and your DB......

Oh, BTW, Great Story.....I like the added cough thrown in... I was going to suggest a note on Bill's Collar saying DVC or Bust.....

:bounce:

Congratulations - on everything!! Your story was the best thing I heard all day!

Thanks for all the nice notes folks! I sent the link to Joe and his reaction was priceless. "So if I changed my mind, I get blackballed from the DIS huh?"

And my answer? "Yep, and you have to cook your own dinners."

Woo hoo!

We're going to WDW 9/23-10/3 and plan on chatting up a storm with a DVC rep as well as talking a walk through the BWV and WLV. We love both resorts but have never walked around the DVC sections. We'll also likely pop in to SSR but I think I'm gonna be pretty headstrong about it. Not sure that I'll like it.

So, here's another question. We go to WDW every year for 8+ days on average. We would really only ever need a studio each visit except on the very rare occasion when friends join us. And even then, they tend to want to stay on their own either at the same resort or one close by. All that being said, how many points do you think we should buy?

We're thinking 150.

If you plan accordingly you'll be able to go more than once a year in a studio with 150 points. It is the Friday and Saturday nights that eat up so many points. I would think 150 would be perfect for a couple.

Congrats on everything!!! That's awesome. Now I have to read your trip report/ engagement....

I also had you pegged for the guy on the left. Nice looking couple!

Enjoy your DVC! You'll never be sorry!
