MK has the Green wall syndrome. Cindys Castle, 20K, Dumbo, Small World, Front Gate.

Epcot has a touch of it in front of the Land. And the front dome over the enterance is completly gone and the pavement is dug up from the bottom of the hill to the top.

Gotta love it!! Of course we want new attractions and the refurbs, but it does get annoying seeing all the green construction walls. If only it COULD be done magically.

I know...but the property must be maintained. I just hope that people are not shocked for the up coming Feb trips...I think little kids and their parents will be missing some photos that they normally take.

Personally, I think Disney is wrong for doing this.

Let me explain - We all know rehabs and refurbs have to be done. No problem. But why is it they couldn't have started some of these refurbs a few months ago? I mean, in February, there will be walls all around the hub, tarps and scaffolding around the castle, walls up on the sidewalks at Main Street.

I disagree with this. They should take one step at a time instead of ruining some of the magic for certain visistors.

When would you expect them to do this? If they had started a few months ago, then it would have been like this for the busiest(and most expensive) time of the year. they have to do it sometime, and they need it to be done before May, so now is the only time they can really do it, and have it be ready with enough time(incase of issues). :umbrella:

With the exception of extended rehaps that take months to complete (like Small World) WDW will always schedule rehabs away from peak travel periods. That means very few rehabs effectively from Spring Break through the end of summer and also none from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

The peak rehab months are January, February, September, October and a little bit in April / May (we missed Dinosaur and Snow White's Scary Adventures last May.)

Let's take a close look at the items that GOOFYFREEK mentioned:

Castle - Definitely some guest impact.
20K lagoon - Hasn't been anything there in years, so impact to guests is minimal.
Dumbo - Definitely guest impact, but rehab limited to about a month during slowest season of the year.
Small World - year-long rehab; all seasons impacted.
Front gate - adding new turnstiles; minimal guest impact.
The Land - integration of new attraction and complete retheming of pavilion.

Honestly, I've seen worse. Two of the theme parks have no noteworthy rehabs occurring. I know I may come across as being a Disney apologist, but when you're dealing with a complex that is open 365/year, they have to happen at sometime. And, frankly, Disney is right to pick the seasons that have the least impact on guests.

For what it's worth, a great time to visit and still get low crowds and rare rehabs is early December. The holiday crowds don't start to appear until the week before Christmas, and there simply isn't time to rehab any attraction between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I think in the end it will all be worth it. From the photo's floating around, the castle is going to look just beautiful. As for the new attractions, well it's one thing that keeps us coming back year after year.

What about Epcot? The whole entrance is ripped up?

Work at EPCOT is limited to The Land pavilion. Soarin will be opening there later this year. They are reconfiguring the front entrance of the building, and the building itself, to better manage the crowds that are expected. You probably won't see much of the pavilion other than the big green wall.

We're heading down for 10 days the 1st week of February and although it would be great if there were no walls, I understand the need for rehabs. I'm absolutely positive that WDW put as few of these barriers up, keeps all construction sites clean and does as little rehab work as possible to keep us guests happy. WDW's the greatest when it comes to customer service so I wouldn't expect anything less.

I guess my biggest gripe is my favorite park is the Magic Kingdom. I LOVE the look and feel of it. I just think that feeling is gonna be ruined when I go in a couple of weeks.

I have this envision of me walking down Main Street seeing men with ripped jeans, hard hats, and drills going all over the place.

It will only be ruined if you allow it to be ruined.

I might LIKE seeing that.

Probably a stupid question...
I've never been to MK before (but have been to Disneyland). There we walked through the castle to get into the park. I'm assuming the same is true in MK. So, can you still get through the castle w/ the walls there or do you have to walk around? I can't tell from the pictures. Thanks!

I know those green walls cuz right across is ICE CREAM and when I see those green babies, I know my HOT fudge sundae is on it's way LOL !!! :jumping4:

They are redesigning the hub and since they are working behind walls you don't really see the construction. The partners statue is wrapped up and in a box for protection.

Nothing at this point is being done to the castle. You can still walk through the castle.

If you are prepared for the refurbishing it won't ruin your vacation. I have pictures of the Hub area in my photo.epson link listed below under Cinderella castle.

Well, its the Green Wall Time of year again. One of the slowest times to be at WDW, and new construction and rehabs have to happen sometime when you are dealing with a 7 day a week, 365 day park. Also, with the Big 50th Aniversary Celebration coming up in May, they are on more of a deadline now. I know that it is kind of disheartening.:(
