Green Teacup Debate- UPDATE: "Sufferin' Succotash!"

They keep rehashing old pins like it's something so new. Just keep everything sold all year long then. Absolutely NOTHING that has ever been sold again EVER regained its original value. The point of removing things is to make it rare but when you bring it back it kills the value. HM pins were rare and worth a lot, now its pure junk. Not that I mind but just sell them all year then and pacify the complainers all year long already.

I'm just ready for people to Get.Over.It.

I think almost everyone has a story about how "unfair" things were when
"this, that and the other thing" was released or re-released.

My story was about getting a blue penny press. I arranged for a trade
the EXACT morning of the day the blue penny press was a Thursday night
Q button quest prize. At the time, I was kicking myself for the trade, but
the part of me that saw the Big Picture realized that there was no
way of knowing the item was going to be the quest prize. So I wasn't too
upset. (And the DISer I traded with got a heck of a great deal!)

My point is, obsessing about rare items is futile. If you don't like something
in VMK, stop playing for a while. It's amazing how one's perspective changes
if you step back and stop playing for a while.

Yeah I am really beginning not to care as much since Yavn and his great staff seem to just do whatever they want anyway. I wish they would just stick to their word when something is retired is all. bringing the same old stuff back is getting old and people are affraid to trade for the reason you posted Briar.

I'm sorry if I sounded mean earlier I just paid good money for something and literally that friday the chair was on sale. So it was a sensitive topic for me :goodvibes

I'm noticing a pattern..

People who dont have rare or beta want it back
People who do, don't want it back

The catch 22 is people that do want things back agree it should be for a limited time or controlled. Why? Because we all want rares. The problem you ask? Well simple, VMK has no control over it. They release it for a day and the flood gates are open. People buy 1000s and stock them in rooms especially if they knew it was for a weekend only, then some players try to SCAM people and trick them "this is rare beta!!" Ugh no it's not buddy, it was rare beta but it's a lot more common now.

Rereleasing beta for a weekend still wont solve the problem. What about the people that joined that Monday after it was on sale? Then what? It's either dont bring them back or just leave them in the shops forever. What's the point if everything will keep coming back and with new people joining everyday, the complaints will always come especially if people know VMK will always bring it back out. It makes people paranoid to trade because you never know that HM hat might be back tomorrow for 500 credits. So people off hold on trading and just wait for it to return. Thats what I do. I dont trade anymore because everything comes back. I'd hate to trade good stuff for Eye pin then get screwed when hosts decide to make it a prize in a door game.

I dont agree with rereleasing. Disney NEVER releases anything. Keywords being if and want. People on here have so much entitlement, like they are entitled to a pin or a beta thing "just because" they weren't here or their PC was crashed during beta or because "I didnt know about VMK". Just get over it ifyou want it, pay for it. Very simple.

Sorry Stephen there is a bug in that ....I do own rare and was playing during beta.

Please do not make blanket statements of how others feel or what others motivations are.

I am not saying you are not entitled to your opinion, you are and it is welcome here, just express it from that perspective and with out the attacks like "people here think they are entitled".

I could actually personally care less if an item is rare or not. If it is something I like and can use to decorate my rooms then yes I would like to have it. I do not feel I am entitled to anything, I in fact work hard for everything I have, with the exceptions of gifts from friends, I play a lot of pirates! Right now I have banked almost 300,000 credits for all the new items coming out and to buy some old things that might be retired. I have gone to WDW with family(9 tickets)and received quests items that I have gifted and given out as prizes and continue to give out, did keep a few for myself and my son.

The reason I think they should limit availability of re released items is for the traders. VMK is a free market society type game. All items have values and values are needed to make exchanges challenging and fun for those who enjoy trading. But when prices for rare items gets out of hand then yes VMK needs to step in and lower the exchange value! It is similar to the exchange rate for dollars to foreign moneys. The governments step in and rates adjust.

It is time for a rate adjustment when some players are trading 15 windows of items for any 1 item.

Sorry if you feel done over, but my question is why?

No one on the DIS is demanding that VMK release retired items.

Re Releasing Retired Items even for a limited time:

1. Reduces the market value thus reducing the chance for scams and players taking unfair advantage of others

2. Reduces the eBay, yahoo and private auction sellers prices they ask for items

3. gives more players an opportunity to own things they may never be able too by purchasing or by trading for (and trading for a reasonable amount)

4. Puts more retired items back in the game because numbers have been reduced because of players quitting, being banned or just holding on to what they have.

5. Helps elimate the need for code generators for items that are rare and obtained via codes in games outside VMK

I am sure I can come up with 6, 7, 8, 9 , & 10 but dinner is waiting to be cooked.

Oh and Zeke no flaming allowed ;) so no worries.

you replied to a post I already edited and changed my mind on. Therefore I wont reply to any point in your post. Also when I said "everyone here feels entitled" I didn't mean like DIS I meant everyone in general. I know not all but some do. My opinion is already different now.

Disney NEVER releases anything. QUOTE]

maybe i am misreading your quote but doesn't Disney rerelease their movies every few years?

IE Peter Pan that just came out, The little Mermaid, Fox and the Hound, and RobinHood before that?

I personally would not like to see any beta items released again. Beta is beta. I think it needs to be kept that way. I would gift a purple treasurechest to someone deserving. Most of the time I see people who only say things like, "I need so and so's beta item really bad", like they're expecting it to be given to them for little or no cost at all. "I want beta items to be in the shop so everyone who was begging for them will have them, and the people that treasured these items will soon have no "rare" left." Sound familiar?

I definitely agree with StephenTXT99. If you release something for one weekend, there will always be a player complaining because they joined the day after the item was sold. Guests should not be handed free beta on a plate just because they're "new and should be like everyone else". If they didn't even get their NAME yet, chances are they don't know a whole lot about beta. They could be easily scammed, so rereleasing items will NOT solve anything.

It will not reduce the ebay "problems" at all. There are people that put buyable items out there, and they would gladly sell a weekend special.

Yeah but when a title goes into the vault it's gone. Disney then brings the movie back but in a new form or version. Peter Pan was Gold now its Platinum DVD with new artwork and features. I mean when a park has a pin sold only during Star Wars event or Halloween Party or Very Merry Christmas, that pin is gone for good. If you want it try eBay or a pin traders site. Disney wont bring it back and start selling again even if some people say "unfair" or "I cant afford $40 on eBay but I want that pin" They dont care, next time you need to attend the party or just pay for what you want.

My point about releases was simple people say "oh bring them back because its not fair, people are getting scammed" Like I said if they sold green cup this weekend what about the people that sign up on Monday? what should we do then? Keep releasing everything every weekend? or what about the people that were away this weekend and didnt know, then get scammed thinking it was still beta when it was released again and pay over 15 items for it. People will always complain until they get everything they want their way.

To comment on the movie bit...the movie itself stays the same. They may have digitally remastered it, but the movie stays the same. So it's not really a "new form or version"...it the same version, just perhaps "cleaned up" since being on VHS and added new special features that are not part of the movie itself. So while the bonus stuff might be new (though in some cases, it's not always new), the movie itself is the same. And that will be the case in the future, too, once the DVDs are rereleased yet again in the coming years. Snow White is supposed to be rereleased in 2008. No need for digital remastering...it's already been done. Same version.

No offense meant at all, but it seems like you, too, are complaining. Bottom line is that you can't please everyone. If someone who opposes your idea gets their way, you might complain about it. And if you get your way, someone who opposes your idea might complain about it. There will always be someone who will find something wrong. Everyone cannot have it their way....because having it their way ultimately means that someone out there does not get their way. Which means there will be someone out there who will complain.

It's a virtual game, guys...it's not real. We need to relax and just have fun with it. If values go down or go up, so be it. The item isn't real anyway. And I think we need to keep that in perspective. There's no point in getting worked up over an item that is merely a few pixels.

VMK is releasing the same exact thing but I didnt use the DVD as an example its a bad one since its a movie the pins is a better one.

I never said I wasnt complaining or did I ever say no one could? I was making the point people will complain even when they rerelease since more people will join.

I am relaxed , sitting here watching TV and reading. Just because I feel passionate about a topic doesn't mean I am loosing sight of the big picture or that it's "not real" But since you mention it, its not merely a few pixels VMK items mean more to me than this smiley :goodvibes so it has some worth lol ;)

VMK is releasing the same exact thing but I didnt use the DVD as an example its a bad one since its a movie the pins is a better one.
You weren't the first to use it as an example, but you did continue the use of it, which is why I commented on your comment of it being a new form/version...and I stated that it wasn't. Pins are a good example to use...or some general merchandise as well, but only a good example to a point. Those items are at least real items you can hold in your hand and use them in daily life. Things in a virtual game, not so much.

I never said I wasnt complaining or did I ever say no one could? I was making the point people will complain even when they rerelease since more people will join.
People will complain if things are rereleased, people will complain if things are not rereleased. People will complain if red is given out but not blue, people will complain that blue is given out instead of red. It's a never ending cycle. Someone will lose out in the end. That's just the nature of the game. We roll with it. Not like we have much of a choice anyway. :)

VMK items may have more personal meaning, but we must still remember that they are virtual pixels. It's ok to feel passionate about something, but we still have to keep things in perspective. Life is not going to end if items are rereleased a million times or not. It's a game, that's all. There are WAY more important things in life to be bothered about than whether or not a fake beta item is released again. If someone wants to complain about it, so be it. Just play the game in the manner that suits you...and others will do the same. And really, this is a good reminder for myself, too. My big "grief" with rereleases is that I just want to see new and different things, especially when a month's theme could call for so many new ideas....I'd like to see new things instead of the same chair being rereleased for the second or third time or what have you. But, as a reminder to myself, in the end it doesn't matter. It's just a game no matter what. And the world goes round. :woohoo:

I agree. I do keep things in perspective but maybe others dont. That's on them not me. I hardly post because I am so busy and have WAY more important things but still I wanted to get my point in lol

Let me put it this way:

I want inferno.

A lot of people want inferno.

Would Inferno-owners like it if Inferno was sold for a weekend for 1000 credits?

...I don't think so.

Would Stitch-owners like it if Stitch Hats were sold for a weekend for 1000 credits?

...I don't think so.

This is exactly my point.

(Oh- and I have my City-Wide Spelling Bee tomorrow, wish me luck :goodvibes )

They sold bat magic for 10,000 credits, so if you wanted to form a comparison
with that, I would be very happy for players to be able to buy Dancing Inferno
Magic or the Stitch hat, for maybe around the same amount of credits as
a quest machine....30,000 credits. That way, it still retains some challenge
to get, unless you've been good about saving credits, and it won't flood
the game with tons of so-called "rare" items.

And good luck on that Spelling Bee!

Personally, I don't care if they do or not. I would like it if they did because then I would actually have a chance of getting those items and I'd be happy about it. I just recently acquired a black candle and was extremely happy to have finally gotten it. But would I be upset if they released it for sale tomorrow? No. It just means that I can then get some more and use them to decorate with.

But, this is a game. I play it so I can get away from all my own personal problems. So, if the items are never released again, then oh well.

It's a game. Nothing to stress about. As stated, not everyone will be happy one way or another. All we can really do is go on with our VMK lives.

what makes you so sure they will release the green teacup?

If they don't the value will actually increase becasue people will want it for that room (if we can get the room)

and if your gut tells you its coming back. trade it! It will fetch a nice price right now @_@
