If you've been around here for a while, you'll know that I have a tendency to take months off from VMK. However, I read the DIS daily. Today, I found a post that speculated about the re-releasment of the green teacup- and immediately started hammering out a letter to Yavn..... blah blah blah blah yakkety yakkety yak.

Anyway, here it is:

To whom it may concern:

Dear whom,

Let's see... where to start?

When VMK started, all of the now "beta" items were for sale. It was a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah point in VMK's history... It was the first time the Virtual Magic Kingdom was opened to the public! On Day 1, however, some items disappeared from the shops- including the green teacup.
Ah, my green teacup. It has been a gem for years now- a little token of my existence in the Beta stages of VMK, and a pretty valuable gem, too! But now I am afraid that it will follow in the footsteps of the other Beta furniture:

Yes, the horrifying WEEKEND SPECIALS!

So I ask you, VMK, will you please consider not
re-releasing the teacup? By releasing it, you will:

-Take away the last "rare" thing you've left me with
-Increase the asking prices for inferno
-Most importantly, anger me (just kidding...)

It's like releasing the Red Rocker or other discontinued quest items to the public. Why won't you do that? You can't get them at WDW or DLR anymore, so why don't you put them into the..

dun dun dunnnnnnn- WEEKEND SPECIALS!

Yavn says, "Go to the parks."

A few VMK players say, "I want a green teacup."
Why can't Yavn say, "Go back in time?"

I went back in time when I went to WDW- so it's possible!

You can't really react to the "possibilty" of something coming back out. Everything in VMK has a possibility of coming back out.. we should all know that.

Sometimes, it's better for the VMK economy to re-release beta and other items. While the owners of these items will be displeased if it is released, a greater number of people will benefit instead. You know what I'm saying?

Hear Hear! But doesn't the "120 new Alice items", even if we don't get all of them, kind of fix this problem?

Cardinal, I 100% absolutely agree with you. People spend so much time and work for rare items and for what? To see it be buyable in the emporium. I mean come on. I also agree with mking624, It gets boring with old stuff comes in with nothing new. Beta should be memorable items that show the early days of VMK, and should be treasured by the lucky who get it. I would not want green flip hat to go on sale, but i would love to see a blue or red flip hat.

I have mixed emotions on this whole rerelease of beta. I understand people wanting to keep their rare Rare, but I also feel for the newbies, and myself, who just want certain items to complete collections or just finish a room.

I tried DESPERATELY to get into VMK the first day it was open to the public, but no matter what my computer and friends' would not run it. I was so angry because it was months after opening that I was finally able to play. By then many items were gone and considered rare. The only way to get ANYTHING was to win a game promising something rare or to visit a park. I live in Kentucky, so there goes the chance of running to a park and loading up as o many do. My only hope was getting into a host game, but we all know what a mess that can be and still not a guarantee of anything worth trading.

MY point being, I like seeing the occasional re-release. It's the only real chance I'll have of getting certain items. Maybe re-releases could be at a much higher credit cost, or released for a VERY limited time like the Mad Hatter hat.

So are you saying that an item that VMK worked so hard on developing should not be released again to keep it's rarity? I would think VMK would want for more people to have it and I have 2 and think it is great if VMK re-releases a beta item to the public because look how much the game has grown since Beta days and how much better it has gotten? So be thankful you have someone out there to bring you the magic from home and that is what I am most thankful for.

So let's just have a beta month! Relfect and Re-release!

I side on the re release of items.... not All the players who started playing and had these items are still playing....many have left either on their own or they were shown the door....so there are even fewer of these rare items to go around.

Tipping the scale to an almost impossible place. If items are released again for a short period then it reduces the outrageous price that people put on these rare items.


My dream would be to have a purple treasure chest and a purple pirate piano but I am not willing to put myself in the virtual poor house to acquire them.

If they were released again that would not FLOOD the market but it would give others an opportunity to own things they never had the possibly of owning any other way.

Releasing items again also reduces the greed, helps cut down on the players who have a ton of rare items and always trade for the most they can get and puts a damper on the scammers.

Not saying that everyone who sides with the No re release side is a scammer or greedy, some just like to own rare stuff.
I do not expect that everyone will agree because we all play the game different just my 2 cents.

Also, perhaps they could do like what they did with inferno. Single Use Magic... but instead, single use furniture, you put it in your room and it's there for one week and is non-tradeable

Even though a silly idea, I love it. I mean, why not let people appear to have rare items and let others actually have rare items.

I'm not sure about "fixing" it since I'm sure we'll see rereleases again, but it's definitely nice to know that a lot of new items are coming out.

I don't mind rereleases, but only to a point. For example, take this month. It's nice they had a new costume and a new host pin. But I was disappointed that the rest of the items were rereleases. So many neat things could have been done, and we wound up having some items that have now done more than one rerelease. For me, it's not really a matter of trade value, though I understand why that would be very frustrating for those looking for trade value. For me it's a matter that I'd like to see new and different items since we don't always see a change in the shops.

Perhaps a solution would be to have a month themed "oldies but goodies" in which rereleases can be offered throughout the month. Just a thought.

I side with the ocassional re-release of items. There are much of the beta items that I have not been able to get.
People who are trading these very rare items either want only other beta or very rare items or several rooms full of quest items.

So many people can't get these items because of the problems of getting these people what they want.

I can't get them because I'm willing to give up everything I own to get one item. I've been somewhat disappointed this month because they've re-released all items that they've already re-released. I was hoping for a limited release of some of the other items that haven't been seen in almost two years.

Also, if items were more available for people to get, then it would cut down on the scamming that's run rampant all over VMK.
As Mal said, there are many people that have the beta that have moved on or been banned so these items are even harder to find. I should know. I've been trying to whittle down my wish list for the year and a half that I've been playing. And there are still so many items in that list below that I need to get.

I've been somewhat disappointed this month because they've re-released all items that they've already re-released.

Yeah this is my biggest "grief"...rereleasing items that have already been rereleased. If there's going to be a rerelease, at least make it something different.

I also agree with rereleasing of beta...but only like for a week end or a day! I wasn't around when vmk opened...but there are so many things I wanted and couldn't get when I first joined because we as new don't have the rare or credits that players want for the beta. I gave 15 windows full of items for stitch hat...I know it was alot..but I really wanted it...so I traded all that. Same with Sparrow!!

I wish we could get more different stuff. Like when I first started for the quest we would get really cool new funiture or clothing! And I don't mind getting a new item but different color but like something completely different!

I just think it always nice to give new players a chance to get rare or beta item for a week end only..but not all month! Just my thoughts.

When something is beta, it will always be beta. Whether it was released again or not. Yes the item is rare, but as time progresses in VMK. Old user go away and their items disappear with them making beta more and more rare yo the point that that particular does not exist. So it is good that the beta is rereleased so that new users can have the opportunity to own or collect everything.

Rereleasing beta for a weekend still wont solve the problem. What about the people that joined that Monday after it was on sale? It's either dont bring them back or just leave them in the shops forever. What's the point if everything will keep coming back and with new people joining everyday, the complaints will always come. Even with releasing people still try to scam and say its beta when you know its not anymore.

I dont agree with rereleasing. Disney NEVER releases anything. Keywords being if and want. People on here have so much entitlement, like they are entitled to a pin or a beta thing "just because" they weren't here or their PC was crashed during beta or because "I didnt know about VMK". Just get over it ifyou want it, pay for it. Very simple.

I wanted to stay out of this, because I knew this would come up. I agree if people want it, they should pay for it, but should we have to put ourselves in the poor house to get one item. The answer is probably a resounding NO!!!!! I will let people have their own opinion, but how would any of us feel if they had to give up everything rare they had to get inferno, green flips, blue beta organ, or anything else like that? That's the point i'm trying to make.

I have lots and lots of beta... I want the green teacup back. I wouldnt be upset if the Sea Green Cactus, or Black candle came back, or any of the other beta that i have. Lets see it all come back in dribs and drabs, I love that.
