Green tea

I have heard that drinking green tea can help you lose weight. Not sure if i should have 1 or 2 cups a day though.

There are many benefits of drinking green tea, but for it to have any effect on weight loss you will need to drink closer to 4-5 cups a day. 1 or 2 cups will not have any impact on weight loss, it just not enough to create the thermogenic effect that helps burn fat.

I used to brew a big pot of it, and drink it cold throughout the day. That was easier for me than making it one cup at time. Also, make sure you keep your water intake high.
 
Do you think the caffeine free green tea works as well the one with caffeine?

No, the caffiene contributes to the thermogenic effect of green tea. Drinking decaf will still have many health benefits, it just won't have as big an impact on weight loss.
 

even if you can't drink that much green tea, or can't take the caffine, JMD is right that there seem to be other overall health benefits to green tea. Plus, taking 15 minutes by yourself to enjoy even one cup of tea a day can do wonders for your disposition. It's the one thing I look forward to about the colder months!
 
I've heard green tea has the fast digestive effect and thus it is not advisable to drink immediately or during your meals. For weightloss it is therefore good to drink after 45 mins every meals after your body has absorb the nutrients from the food.

I keep hearing opposing philosophies regarding the green tea. Dr. Perricone wrote that replacing coffee with green tea will cause you to lose 10lbs. Furthermore, Dr. Weil said that green tea is good for you and has anti cancer properties. Then I was watching a TV program and the
nutritionist said that green tea does NOT cause you to lose weight. Its just like any other herbal tea. I don't know what to believe!

As for the green tea pills, the clerk at my local GNC said that they were just as good as the tea.

Who are Dr. Perricone & Dr. Weil?

I've seen dozens of studies that show that green tea can assist with weight loss. The ingredients in the tea have documented effects on fat loss. But, like anything else, everyone will respond to it differently.

Green tea may help if you are already eating healthy and have a consistent exercise program. If not, don't expect much from drinking green tea.
 
They've both been on PBS nonstop for several years now. Dr. Perricone is the anti wrinkle dermatologist. He stresses carefully choosing your foods, taking supplements & using certain skin care products. His skin care line is very expensive. Dr. Weil is the holistic doctor who stresses eating well, doing yoga etc. They both have websites.
