Green Ribbons Fuel Anti-War Fury

(1010 WINS) PARSIPPANY, N.J. Green ribbons being displayed throughout the township are not meant to be anti-war symbols, but instead were put up in recognition of National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Month.

Parsippany officials said they have received several complaints in recent weeks from residents who believed the ribbons made a political statement, apparently unaware that the decorations have been displayed in the Morris County town for several years.

Nick Cerbo has been hanging the ribbons since he received a new heart seven years ago, and other residents have joined him over the years. The displays, which can be seen at the municipal building, the police department and on various trees and posts, have been approved by township officials and are due to be removed at the end of April.

''When something like this (a transplant) happens to you, you take it seriously,'' said Cerbo, who owns a local lumber company, told the Daily Record of Parsippany for Wednesday's editions. ''I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for organ donors.''

I was wondering what the DIS had to do with Anti-war when I read the headline. The protesters in my town all wear black when the protest. (Every Wed in front of the newspaper so I drive by them every week. Doesn't really bother me, just thought I would not the color of choice!)
