I will of course check with guest services when we arrive but just wanted to find out how often the green army men from toy story are out and about. Suddenly seeing & having his pic taken with these guys has been added to my DS6's "must" list.

So DISers how often and whereabouts do you see these guys.

I have seen him most times of the day right across from the Carousel in DCA - my boys usually head to Screamin' first thing so I people watch, lol. There is a covered patio with benches where you can watch Screamin' go by. Sometimes Woody or Jessie joins them, or trades off with them.

The guys are truly awesome with the kids..I always feel a little sad for them because not many people come for a picture. Last time I was there, only a few kids wanted their pictures with him, but as soon as Woody started heading towards that area, mobs came literally running to the spot. :sad1:

The good news for your little one is that the Army Man will spend lots of time with him.

I second the location, and also found them in that same general area when I was there in Oct. They play their part to the max, and I loved watching them interact with the kids. My fav act besides Billy Hill and the Hillbillies in DL. I would say that if your kids love Toy Story then the Toy Soldiers are a must see.

Do they come out during the off season? We didn't see them on a Friday in early February.
It was raining, could that have been the reason?

DS6 funny for the day

He asked me how the green army men keep their make-up on during the rain..I told him toys don't wear make-up

He said ... Mom do you see those stick things on the toys feet? The ones at DL don't have them they are HUMANS pretending to be toys

(in case that needs clarifying the "stick things" are the little platforms on toy soldiers that make it so they can stand up)

That could have been the reason, or maybe their appearance is newer than Feb?

We only go in the off season, mid-week, so that is when I have seen them. This year, we've been in May, Sept, & Nov/Dec.

Prior to that, we hadn't gone for over a year, and I do not remember seeing them in 2008.

They've been there at least since late April/early May 2010 - we were there for the food and wine festival and saw the Green Army Men's percussion show in a few different locations around DCA.

We didn't see them in a specific place for a photo op only - but the show was, i believe, on the Times Guide w/the locations as well.

We saw them multiple times over the weekend at the Animation building. They seem to be "handlers" at times for Woody and Jessie. Also, the times guide listed a specific "green army men" event that happened multiple times during the day. We never made it over there, so I can't confirm it.

If they are like the ones at WDW were asking them when the 3:00 parade was... they would always say "1500 soldier!" Just a hint... you should have your son ask!

I missed the "Green Army Men" event in the times guide, but the boys saw it (17 y.o.'s) and they enjoyed it. I guess they do some interactive skit with the younger kids, and when one of the kids decided he had had enough, the Green Army Man in charge said something about him going AWOL. I wished I'd seen it, as it sounded like fun.

I would probably do this.

As other have noted I've also seen there recruit training in different locations. I've seen single army men in different spots. It almost seems random so I would check the day you are there.

I should mention that they were with Jessie and Woody when we saw them. And they are very funny and very interactive with the kids...

Jessie and Woody alternate at the location pictured above which is very close to TSMM and SCREAMING

In November we once sas a Green Army Man solo and once with Jessie. Both times early afternoon, at the photo spot across from Toy Store Mania.

There were usually CMs in the area even if the characters are on a break. I think your best bet is asking them. At least in November that Meet and Greet wasn't on the schedule unless my memory is more fuzzy than I thought.
