I seriously want to get away with DH for a few days. This is very last minute as it would be over Labor Day. Thinking we would leave on Thursday *driving* and then come home on Monday.

I am NOT a water person, but something about being on the beach, seeing the sunsets, and hearing the crash of the water relaxes me. My other problem with the beach is they all seem so far to drive too.......We live in KS.......

My other idea was we could go to Green Bay (go to Packers preseason game on Thurs night.........cross it off the bucket list). I thought we might could stay on Lake Michigan somewhere, but I also dont want to break the bank. Not sure what else there would be to do.

So give me your thoughts or suggestions. TIA

We've done the whole Green Bay/Door County trip and it is gorgeous. Totally worth it for a romantic weekend in my book. You can tour the stadium for free.
There are tons of picturesque little towns in Door County that make it perfect for drives. There are also a lot of hotels/B&Bs so you should find competitive rates if you look around. Most of the small, family-run places are set with their prices, but we stayed at a larger hotel in Sturgeon Bay and they gave me a great deal.

Trying to figure out how not to offend anyone, but Green Bay is not gorgeous. Door county is nice but can be a little touristy and crowded. You'll be shocked at how much of a small town Green Bay is to have an NFL team.

As an owner, choose the Packer Game if it's on your bucket list! No better place to be on game day!

:thumbsup2 My son has been on the waiting list for four years. I think he's about 78,000 in line!

It has been a long time (20 years ago) but my husband and I spent a wonderful vacation in Door County. Beautiful scenery and plenty of places to enjoy the lake and the bay. At that time it wasn't crowded at all, but who knows how it is now. We were there the week just after Labor Day.

I'm honestly not sure what the attraction to Door County is. Sure it's pretty but so are a bunch of other places. If you're looking for picturesque, Galena,IL would be a lot closer for you.

If you want to see a game, then head to Green Bay. It will be a pre-season game before Labor Day if that matters. Traffic heading towards IL is horrible on any weekend but especially on a holiday weekend so keep that in mind while you plan your route

We spent a week in Door County for many summers, as my in-laws have a cottage there. Peninsula state Park is very nice - lots of bike trails, a small beach, scenic views, and the nearby towns of Ephraim and Fish Creek are fun to explore. A favorite is the kite store. We love the outdoor theater in the park (I think they changed their name recently to Northern Sky theater.) Labor Day will be busy there and reservations may be hard to come by. There are wineries also.

I live in Green Bay and would be willing to help you out if you decide to come. There is nothing that compares to a Green Bay Packer game! FYI, stadium tours are NOT free. There are some very pretty areas to stay along Lake Michigan. The water will not be warm, but pretty. Door County is an option, but NOT cheap. Very touristy. If you are a Packer fan, you can do the stadium tour, Hall of Fame, eat in the atrium, take a segway tour. We also have Bay Beach with Elvis' favorite original roller coaster.

We would go to Door County every fall just to look at the colors. September is quiet - one year we were a little late and almost everything was closed since tourism had died down. Labor Day would be hectic.

That is because no one owns The Packers-but tha whole debate is just off topic.

OP-you may find tickets, but highly unlikely unless you know a Season Ticket holder. There is no ticket window that you can walk up to and purchase tickets. On the East side of the stadium, there is a small area, where people with extra tickets can sell their's, good luck, also waiting to almost kickoff time is your best bet to pay the ticket price, otherwise people are asking $200-$400 a ticket.

Door County will be packed a Labor Day weekend, but then again, what isn't. I would call ahead and make a reservation.

Just looking to see who you were, and happened to see your join date. Nothing like the Packers to make you post.

If you have a Packer fan in your life, even a preseason game would be a cool experience. We got regular game tix once through the NFL ticket exchange site and that worked well. I'd only stay one night in Green Bay and then hit Door County. We like Egg Harbor. The trolley or winery tour would be fun as a couple. It will probably be cooler at that time so bring a fleece or jacket.

So you would go for GB/Door County as opposed to the beach in TX maybe?
