Great wolf Traverse city MI

I just priced Zehnders for our Christmas break dates. It's about double the price of GWL!!! I'm going to miss the coupon codes from GWL.

We were thinking of going there over MKL weekend. Guess not :(

I'm relatively new to Michigan, so any rec's on where else to go? My kids are 3 & 5, and we live in Grosse Pointe. I know there's Kalahari in Sandusky, OH, but would love to hear suggestions. Don't mind driving a few hours.

Niagara Falls is fun and not a far drive from Grosse Pointe. We make it there in about 3 hours, Traverse City takes us 4.

Well, I work for a different resort here in Michigan and I heard it directly from our GM and it is not something they are advertising as they are scared that people will cancel before they close their doors. Oh the plus side it is good news for my resort.

I'm curious to know how your GM knows this information. I mean if they are keeping it from people how would he know? Maybe it is for sale? I live in Traverse City and have not heard anything about them closing.

Wow, just on here looking for some info about possibly booking DD's bday in Feb here and am shocked they are closing! I haven't hear anything about it. My friend lives in Ludington and hasn't either....kinda depressing now.

We enjoy Houghton Lake Comfort Suites Lakeside for a small, quieter waterpark experience but was looking forward to something bigger to celebrate her birthday. Guess we'll have to look into other options now :(

My GM's husband is part of the company that was hired to figure out what GWL should do. They had it up for sale for the last 2 years and there has not been any interest. They recomended closing it as they file. Same thing as Double JJ did when they filed in Sept 08. Only certain people knew that they were closing and the rest of us did not find out, only heard rumors, until they closed their doors. I hope that I am wrong but I do not think I am.

We actually just got back from a Kalahari trip not quite a week ago, and that place is always a lot of fun. They've by far got the best indoor waterpark I've seen, and I think they might still hold the title of America's largest, but most of their slides and attractions are for 42"+ or 48"+ so your kids might be a little young to get the most out of it.

My kids also like Splash Village up in Frankenmuth. Their waterpark is heavier on little-kid friendly areas and has a cute theme, plus there's the fun of being in Frankenmuth, going to Bronners (right next door to the resort), having the famous chicken dinner, getting fudge, spending some time at the old-time arcade. We're hoping to fit in a couple of days there either before Christmas since our kids get out the 17th this year or over one of the long winter weekends (MLK or Presidents Day).

Oh how I miss Frankenmuth, loved those chicken dinners!

My sister has taken her kids to Kalahari and they loved it.

MARIUS, I am with you. I can't believe Watervliet was mentioned on the DISboards!!!!! That is only a few miles from my neck of the woods!! We love going to Surfari Joes, it is a great little waterpark for our neck of the woods!!!!!

The one in Dundee is still closed due to the tornado damage. We dont live far from there.

There is also Castaway Bay at Cedar Point in Sandusky OH.

That was a bit of a good slap in the face. I didn't expect to here someone mention Watervliet in the disboards. I'm a ways south of Watervliet...yes there is MI south of there.;) How did you guys like it? I'm a family of five so it gets crazy expensive trying to find a room big enough for all of us.

LOL!!!! We are near South Haven so Watervliet isn't far.

Safari Joe's is fine for smaller kids. Dd is 10 and does still like it but it seems geared for a younger crowd. We always order from Pizza Hut and let her go crazy all night in the water park. It isnt huge but for $120 for the park/room its good enough to kill a winter weekend. Dh and I can sit in the big hot tub and watch her all around, the place is not large.

I know there is something similar in Shipshewana but every time we tried to stay there its booked. That might be closer to you than Watervliet is? http://www.splashuniverse.com/Shipshewana/Home.php

Well, I can certainly see why the management at GWL would like to keep this under wraps if it is true.

We had a 2 night stay scheduled for this week and I almost cancelled it based on this thread. I really thought I'd be in for a dismal stay with poor customer service (who wants to be cheery if you are getting the axe...), limited toiletries (why order more bubble gum scented kids body wash if you're closing your doors), slim pickings at the ice cream shop (why order more sprinkles if you're closing) and shabby surroundings (why repair anything if you are closing).

Well, we had a very nice time. Everything was up to par. Customer service was great, the Christmas decorations were pretty, our room was in good shape, the gift shops, ice cream shop and arcade seemed to be well stocked. Really ... nothing seemed amiss. It was very busy and I'm glad we took the trip as scheduled.
