Hi,

A Great Wolf Lodge is opening up in the Poconos (about a 3 hour drive from us) so DH and I were thinking of taking the kids there for a short winter vacation. We've never been to any of the other GWL's but it looks like a fun place. I'd be interested to hear from others who have gone to the other Great Wolf Lodge locations.

My kids will be 5, 7 and 8 at the time and love Disney waterparks and loved the Nick Hotel pools so I think they would love this - are they the right age. ALso any advice you can give me on accomodations - family suite or upgrade to one of the kids suites. Is it worth the money.

ANy tips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I agree that these lodges look like fun. They also seem to be expensive when I checked into them during the summer. Are they worth the price? Tagging along for answers.

We've been to the one in the Wisconsin Dells. It is a great time especially in the winter. They have alot of kids activities and if I remember right their food was pretty good!

Have a great getaway

We've booked a weekend next week for the one in Sandusky, OH since they had a special. I'm pretty excited since I've wanted to go there for some time now and just never got a chance to. Now that the kids are 4 & 7, they'll love it.

Oh! Let us know how it goes! WE're thinking about either GWL or Kalahari in Sandusky next summer. We're leaning toward Kalahari I'd love to know how your trip goes!

We went to the Sandusky one a couple years ago when DS was about 3. We loved it -- it was a lot of fun! One tip I would suggest is to go during the weekdays if you can, you can get much better deals Sun-Thurs. :)

They are running a special for the Grand Opening of the Pocono Lodge and I believe it is mid-week so we'll definitely take advantage of that! Anybody else?

Go for the mid-week specials.

We love the one in Wisconsin Dells. I am too cheap to pay for the weekend rates.

Get on their e-mail list. They occaisonally e-mail any good deals.

One thing that helps with finding a good rate at GWL is on days your kids are not in school. I.e. if your kids are off on a Friday - Thursday night would usually be considered an off-peak rate - whereas Friday night would be a more expensive rate.

My DD loves GWL (the first time we were there was when she was 10.)

We went to the GWL in Williamsburg this past summer. We had a discount on the room (I can't remeber what it was- sorry) and we really enjoyed it. We had a family suite which consisted of 2 Queen beds and a pull-out sofa bed in a sectioned off living area. There were 4 of us and this was plenty of room. My dd was 12 and just loved the water-park area. They also had hair-wrapping, temporary tattos and chariacture(sp?) drawings. The bakery was nice, they served starbucks coffee :goodvibes and we also liked the restaurant. They had a pizza hut express and a really nice gift-shop.
Have a good time!

My in-laws stayed at the GWL not far from our house. They had a suite that had a bed and pull-out couch downstairs and another bed up in a loft. I don't know if it was worth the extra money to upgrade to the suite. The pool area is fun, but I think one night was enough. On the day you check-in, you can start using the pool at 1 p.m., and on the day you check out you can use the pool until something like 10 p.m. Definitely look for a discount. They have them often.

I tried to post this exact question last week and it would not work!! I even posted a message about not being able to post, and THAT one did work LOL.

Anyway, yes we received the flyer about the one in the Pocono's and I was hoping some DIS'ers could give some info!!! :)

We've stayed at the GWL in Traverse City. DS's 4 & 11. They had a blast as well as the big boy DH. We also had the 2 queen bed and pull out sofa. Plenty of room. There was a fridge and microwave in the room. We had a great deal on our room (thru DH's work) and went mid-week. The food was great. Although we could've saved some money by bringing some things with us. Both Dh and DS11 said that it reminded them in someways of Disney. There were characters and pressed penny machines. The water park was great. Geared towards all ages. We are thinking about trying to go again, maybe over Thanksgiving if we're not too late to book a room (DS turns 12). I would highly recommend going, but for us the 2 nights was long enough!
