Anyone stayed there? Is the resort very spread-out (i.e. many buildings)?

I am planning to book 2 types of suites (a Family Suite + a KidKamp Suite) - wondering if it is possible to arrange rooms in the same building.

Are there many activities for a 4-year-old, other than the waterpark?

It's an awsome place ! Lots for little ones to do. Storytime, dance party, playroom....

I just received an email for some "special rates.."
If you are planning on going in Dec. , use the code RUDOLPH and you should get the family suite for $199.00 with a $50.00 room credit for the week before Christmas..
We can't go this winter...
Have a great time!

Thank you son3disfan!

We are planning to visit during DD4's Christmas holidays. Do you think we should stay for one night, or two nights?

Some more questions for you - :)
1). What's the difference between Waterlevel level and Balcony level? Which one has the minimal noise level?
2). Do they have lots of buildings, very spread out just like WDW resorts?
3). Is parking lot far away from the buildings?
4). Any restaurant suggestions, or should we pack our own food?

Although it is a great place - one word of caution - it is extremely packed on the weekends. I don't know about the week days, we were there on a Friday and Saturday and it was unreal! Me, DH and DD (15) swear we will never return - DS (5) begs to return.

It is one large building. Water level is on the same level as the water park. I think the rooms are well built - we didn't hear any noise at all from outside our room.

Depending on where your room is located and how busy it is, you may have a good walk to your room from the parking lot - especially if you want to use the elevators. There are lots of exterior doors around the building where you can use the stairs but no elevators.

We enjoyed the buffet breakfast that was included with our rate, but I believe the food is otherwise pretty pricey - especially in the waterpark. We went out for meals. There is a fridge and microwave so you could bring some food.

Have fun :goodvibes

1) Waterlevel is just that..no elevators to use. All ground floor rooms. Not a big deal, but if you do reserve one, with a patio, you have outside access.( Not my preference..)I prefer the balcony.
2)It is a hotel, so all one big building.
3) parking lot is right next to hotel.
4) Great buffet breakfasts and dinners ( all you can eat ) and some fast food and coffee places as well. I always bring some food ( sandwiches and snacks and stuff anyway.)It can be a bit pricey with the food.
Make sure to do the storytime!
Let me know if you have any more questions...

We stayed there last year and are planning on returning. Like jtdl said it is one building. It is a far walk from the end of the buildings to the waterpark in the middle but compared to disney resorts not an issue.

I did find the elevators to be small and scarce. I had to wait a while to use them. We walked up the stairs except for taking our luggage to the car.

You really can't compare the size of GWL to a disney resort. You will have no trouble parking or walking end to end.

Of course they do not have the people moving systems in place that disney has. At check time there is a huge lineup. Actually you go through two huge lineups. #1 at 1pm when you are allowed to enter the water park. You have to check in at the front desk first. Of course your room is not ready until 4pm so off you go to use the really unexcusable tiny changerooms. Really not good planning on their part. It is impossible to find a locker (there seems to be a better chance in the men's) and you can't charge anything to your room on your bracelets until you have a room so you have to carry around your wallet. The staff does not monitor the chairs and tables so by 10:30 they are all taken up. This leaves you standing and holding your wallet while the children play.

Than at 4pm you head off to the front desk (wet in your bathing suit thinking I'll just grab a towel because this won't take long) to check in and receive your actual room. You have to wait in line again. You get cold. You get annoyed by the talking tree you found so sweet just a few hours ago. You finally receive your room key and haul out to the car all wet to bring in the luggage to your room. Your room is on the fourth floor and you need to take the elevator up since hubby is with the kids and although your nickname is packmule(overpackers unite!) try as you might you can not carry 4 suitcases, 5 pillows,3 backpacks, a case of water and the portable DVD player up the stairs all at once. As mentioned earlier the elevators are full of other parents carrying in their luggage too. You wait in line.

Perhaps you decide to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant. It seems like a good idea. It is close by. Turns out it is quite expensive and not all that tasty. Try takeout instead.

I'm sounding bitter here and I don't mean to be that hard on them. The place was clean, the kids had fun, so much so that we are going again this year. But I will be a wiser traveller. Just wanted to help make you one too.:rolleyes1

I checked in at 1:00, and got our room right away.:confused3

In fact, they offered us an upgrade to the loft suite for $20.00.
( We were booked in a Family suite). We found the food delicious!
I think it was $19.99 adult , and $9.99 a child ( or was it ($7.99 ?)
Not too bad. The pizza from Pizza Hut (inside the lodge) was super expensive , so we ordered out .

There is a main elevator that is always busy, and checkout was busy too, so make sure to do the express checkout.

The best part, is once you check out, you can stay for the day. They have free lockers that are activated by your wrist band ( such an awesome idea!)right on the pool deck, and a really nice change room with showers.Bring your luggage to the car, and keep your day clothes and wallets in the lockers. Free towels as well.

We can't wait to go back!

OUR EXPERIENCE AND MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY. Son3disfan must have been very lucky and stayed there when it wasn't so busy.

One thing I did forget to mention was that there is a craft room there (you have to pay for each craft of course) and DS coloured a t-shirt and painted a sign for his bedroom door. He really enjoyed that as well.

Thank you for all the comments.

Does anyone know if
Wiley’s PJ Party! = It’s a Great Wolf Lodge Pajama Party! = Bedtime Storytelling?

DW wants to go their on Dec 25, and I realized that no PJ party on those nights. Wondering if there will be Bedtime Storytelling?

We were lucky, yes... I don't think upgrades happen to often ( but it never hurts to ask!). We stayed on a weekend in June and the place was booked soild, as we tried to get a room for our inlaws....
We checked in right at 1:00. Maybe that made a difference. There were only about 10 other families in line behind us at check in. By 3:00, the waterpark was packed.. but still alot of fun. You will have to wait in line for most rides, but they move fairly well. By 8:00 pm, we walked on most rides, and the kids loved staying up late!

The experience is what you make it.
Yes , you will not be the only ones there, it will probably be busy. But enjoy the suroundings, and if there is a line up, come back later. Everyone probably runs to the check in counter right at 4:00. You already have your tickets. No rush !There is a place to change/shower right inside the water park, if you are wanting to get ready for early dinner. There are places to eat, and sit ( by the huge fire place!) and have a drink.

Wow, not our experence at all!
I had myself and my two little boys in a shower with me.It had 2 sections to it.Lots of room:confused3 and the changeroom had several different areas. Maybe you didn't make your way back far enough!
The larger lockers on the deck fill up fast, we got one the 2nd morning we were there. They are great. We were able to charge to our room as soon as we checked in.Not sure why you were not aloud to.Tables are not monitored by staff, but there were lots of chairs for us up by the bar ( by the wave pool) Not the best location, but at least we had a meeting place. Again, everyone 's experience is different.

The first and only time we went to GWL was in April...we took off early from work on Friday and got there about 4pm, it was EMPTY...we walked on to everything!!! Had no problems finding lockers/chairs etc. The Saturday it got a little busier...but not much, we missed almost having the place to ourselves so we didn't stay the whole day. Check in was a breeze, although they put us WAYYYYYY at one end of the building (we were the 3rd door from the end of the hallway), we didnt eat there cause with 6 of us we just found it way to expensive. It was fun, I dont know if I would ever go back (we got a REALLY good corporate rate), our friends kids want to go back though. The wave pool could have been bigger and so could the change rooms. It was fun though. Glad we went! BTW we stayed in a family suite, and it was a decent size.

I totally agree with son3disfan that the experience is what you make it. I just wanted to help anyone plan to avoid the experience I had.

We found the water park empty by about 7pm.

I echo your thoughts, especially on the change/locker rooms which are lacking. This was my biggest complaint for our visit at New Years.

I don't find a men's change room that is barely the size of my hotel room, that must serve hundreds of guests, to be adequate. Women coming into the men's side looking for lockers isn't right either.

Great Wolf is encouraging an overlap of guests with the ability to use the park 2 days for one night stay, yet they don't provide enough lockers to satisfy their customers. I expressed my disappointment on this point to the resort in an email but never received acknowledgement.

Other than that...we had a great time and the kids are constantly begging to go back.

-We stayed on the main level so didn't have to deal with elevators.
-bring microwave popcorn which make for a great snack
-we ate mostly off property as we found the prices too much (kids never get their moneys worth at a buffet)
-we did get a Pizza Hut pizza for lunch one day (just brought our own drinks)
-they have a redemption arcade which for $40 kept 4 of us busy for close to 2 hours
-It certainly isn't cheap but if you can get it for $199 a night that is pretty good value...a nice break from winter.

Have fun!!!

We went in June and loved it.

Didn't like the change rooms either. There is now way you can shower with two children in the womens change room. I think there was only three showers too and it was the only place to change if you didn't want to be out in the open. :sad2:

We didn't like the food either and wished we would have gone out. Next time that is what we will do.

Thank you everyone!

I have booked Great-Wolf Lodge for Dec 25-26 :)

Regarding dining - are there any good restaurant (nearby) you would recommend for us to celebrate Christmas? We need to return to Great Wolf at 8pm for the Storytelling though ....

Sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe you'll do a Trip Report?

agnes!
