We are going to GWL in Concord, NC for the first time. They are having a kids eat free special for the buffets there during breakfast and dinner.

First, does anyone know how much the adult meals usually run? I'm wondering if this is actually a good deal or if we would be better off going to another nearby restaurant.

Also, how is the food?

Thanks!

I can tell you the one in PA was 36.99 or 38.99 (forget the exact) childern were not much less. From what I understand they are alll close in price and serve the same food. The dinner is normal Buffet food at best it is not bad it is not good. If you have one adult and two kids it is likely a good deal two adults go eleswhere...
The one in PA has at least 30 places to eat in a few mile drive... if you find a local chain place near it I would say eat there
GWL is great however I can not understand why they serve ok food at best and charge a higher than expected Theme park price when in general there are so many options near by

We were in Concord last month and the buffet is around $20 for dinner. I thought the food was just okay, not worth $20, but the wait at nearby restaurants was over an hour. The free kids meal is just for kids under 10, so we had to pay the full $20 for my 12 year old. The service was really slow for those of us who weren't eating the buffet. There are lots of restaurants nearby; I'd recommend you go there instead, but go early as the wait gets long on the weekend. On a side note, we ate at the Applebees there and it was very well run--they opened a new section to seat our large group more quickly and the service was great. Much better service/food than your typical Applebees/Chilis/Ruby Tuesday type restaurant.

When we were there we got food away from the hotel almost exclusively. There are a bunch of restaurants very close (like in the parking lot).

I work across the street if you have any questions. I can see GWL from my office.

I know that the food is so pricey and so bad at the lodge that I see employees eating at Chuck E Cheese. For real.

There are a TON of great restaurants near the lodge. Highly recommend Tsunami japanese. There is also a Texas Land and Cattle, Cracker Barrel, Carrabas, Ruby Tuesday. And starting next Tuesday there is a Jim n Nicks BBQ opening up across the street that is supposed to be great.

Wow. That is bad. I personally don't want to eat there but they are having a "kids eat free" thing while we are there and so DH wants to do it.... :confused3. I keep telling him there are other things super close (I've used google maps and also urban spoon to find some places) but he says it will be easier to just eat there. True, I guess, but ... bleck.

Can all kids eat free or it is a special that you have to book with the room? On the website for the KC location, under deals, there is a kids eat free option but there are also room discount options. I would take a room discount and eat elsewhere. Just like at Disney, if you are paying more for your room, then it is not truly free. We have a T-Rex, an awesome BBQ place and a Cheese Burger in Paradise by the GWL here, along with the usual Outback, Applebees, Olive Garden, Logans, Granite City, etc. I'm sure most GWLs are located near plenty of restaurants.

We got a 20% room discount. I think kids eat free regardless of what you pay for your room for a certain period of time. Not like one or the other. :)
