I don't remember seeing one like that since they opened. Just got back today - a friend booked a block of 15 rooms for yesterday, $309 with taxes and fees (holiday weekend - regular rate was about $450).

Has anyone been to the Split Rock water park? How does it compare to Great Wolf Lodge?

i've been to split rock but before it was a water park... it was nice, clean, well-run, efficient staff...

Wow. Someone hasn't been here very long. Very outspoken, too.
Check the join date. Been here much longer than you.

That being said - my apologies if I was hasty and incorrect. Am I missing something? Does Disney own Great Wolf Lodge? If not, why is Great Wolf Lodge being discussed on a Disney Board? (This thread was originally posted in the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies Board, which is where I responded to it before it was moved here.)

Yes, you "registered" before me. I guess I was surprised that you would start your comment with an "Um", thinking you were pointing out something obvious.

I haven been to Gw in the Poconos many times and SR once. They are about equal IMHO. I do like you can pay 30$ a day for SR and not stay the night. We live about 1.5 hours away and took a bunch of kids and our friends, for dd 13 b day last year. With that is cost to get in for the day and dinner in Scranton on the way home it saved about $200 over a nighi at GW. With that said I prefer the decor and setting of GW; plus I love the outlet mall a mile down the road!:worship:

We discuss many things on the Budget Board; not all things are Disney related! That is why the motto is: a dollar saved is a dollar for for Disney! :wizard:

Gotcha - thanks. Again - my apologies for the e-attitude.

Um..this is a Disney forum. :confused3

Actually,Adventures By Disney runs part of their Spirit of America there...

As far as the Split Rock and GW review...I cant do either of my own experience. We live 25 mins from Split rock and my mom just told me they have a water area now...she said she thought it was 40 a person for the day. Great wolf is exclusive to guests that stay but is open for parties(that was my understanding anyway....that unless you have a birthday party there you had to stay to be able to use the area). Hmm maybe I was wrong on that after all. I hope so because my SIL went to GW last year....she said it was very nice and that they stayed there a Friday to Sat....her comments were Friday is a wasted night really with the check in, getting settled and eating dinner(they got there around 3) my niece was tired so they all went to bed, but they also live in South Carolina and had went there to start their Pa vacation. She went with a friend and her family. Sat they used the water park all day. Then the kids wanted to use the water park on Sunday....she just felt very rushed to get their stuff to the car as you check out mid morning...but she said she was still able to use the water area after check out. They did enjoy it, it just seems like a lot of money to pay for the hotel for a weekend just to use the water park if you live nearby.
I also figure if you broke it down into a hotel and paying for a water park admission in the summer it is close ot the same costs....its a toss up..LOL

I've been there a few times now, and always got there before noon, and got the wristbands. The hours between 11 and 3 are great - people checking out an not using the park, people not realizing you can get the bands early. Checkout is at 11 - we used the waterpark from 9 - 10:55, and then went back to the room to change, and left at 11:30. Friends of ours checked out, and stayed at the park all day.

we did the same thing when we went... arrived just before noon, got our bands, played in the water park... later got the room keys and settled in just in time for dinner... went back to the water park after dinner 'til closing...

on check out day we stayed 'til about 3pm as well...

i know a few people that take a local motel room for their checkout day so they can stay in the water park 'til closing and not have to drive home... good way to get an extra water park day w/out having to pay the high room prices...

That is a good idea. We're only 1 1/4 hours away, but the reason we don't stay all day is because I think the locker room get a little grungy by the end of the day.
