Our DS was born on Friday, October 1, 2004. He was 37 weeks and his lungs were a little under developed. Thank God we live near a hospital with a great Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We just came home today. I feel like we've been in a time warp. Our world stood still, but the world kept going on.
But, we are lucky. The Dr's say that he should have no problems now. There were so many babies in much worse shape. (In fact babies from my family have gone through in much, much worse shape.) One thing that made that place seem happier is that the four critical care "pods" are named after Pooh characters. In fact, Pooh's Corner, Tigger's Place, Eeyore's and Kanga's pods. We were in Tigger's Place. Each pod holds around 10 babies. (I think.)
So, here's my point. They make cute nametags with the baby's name, to go along with the hospital-like "Baby Boy Connell" tag. They use letter stickers or stamps or markers and then decorate them with cute stuff. Ours had a big Tigger sticker. I'm pretty sure that it was just one of those SandyLion ones that you can find at the Dollar Tree. I don't normally get into the Pooh stuff, but now I find it endearing. It really brought a little sunshine into our lives to see that they knew he was more than a patient, more than Baby Boy. He was our baby, he was John.
They obviously don't have a budget for stickers at the hospital, they get them by donation. If you have any stickers, papers, etc. that you probably won't use, or found cheap, or whatever your reason, I would love to help spread some cheer to those families of the babies who are going to have a rough holiday season.
I've never done anything like this, so I don't know what kind of response I'll get. Let me know if you have something to donate. I know it will be appreciated.

Wow.... what a story! Glad to hear that your DS is doing well! My DD was born at 36 weeks, but fortunately she was just fine (tiny, but fine!). Thanks for letting us know about him, and for sharing a great idea! Prayers to you all............Pamela
