II took my youngest daughter to WDW for a surprise trip for her 9th birthday from August 10th through the 17th. Considering I had only planned this about a month in advance, I had several options as far as resorts. Originally, I booked Kidani but changed it because we will be staying there in June 2013 with friends and stay there quite often. Since it was just the two of us, I decided that split stay would work well. We stayed at BLT the first 3 nights and BWV the last 4. I upgraded us to 7day tickets and we went to a park everyday which is something we'd never do with the whole family.

We have stayed at BLT before. We really enjoy access to the monorail and walking to mk. Our Villa was immaculate and really convenient to the bridge to the Contemporary. We went to MK twice, swam at the Polynesian, ate at the. Cove Cafe, Kona and Captain Cook's and saw Wishes from the Top of the World Lounge.

When it was time to move to BWV we had Bell services transfer our suitcase to BWV and we hopped on the monorail to Epcot prior to park opening. We left Epcot after 1:00pm and walked to BWV. We had never stayed at BWV but I had visited the Boardwalk around Christmas. It is just a gorgeous, ornate, wonderfully themed resort that is always buzzing with energy. Our room was ready and in an absolutely perfect location convenient to the lobby, pool and center of the Boardwalk. We booked a garden/pool view but we're able to see the Epcot fireworks and the Boardwalk to our left. The room itself was spotless and everything was in great repair. We loved the decor. The rooms are not photogenic because I always thought they looked like a hodgepodge but the decor is really cute.

While we were at the BWV we took advantage of the boats to Epcot (under a 10 minute ride) and DHS (about 20 minutes). We ate at Kouzzina and met Cat Cora! We watched the magic shows, bought ice cream and candy at Seashore Sweets, shopped at the Screen Door went to Epcot twice and DHS twice and swam in the "infamous" clown pool 3 times. The slide is great and we loved the pool area. It is really cute. We took the bus to AK with no trouble. We ate at Sanaa that day and hopped on the DHS bus from Kidani then walked from DHS to BWV, no problem. We fell in love with BWV and hope to stay there again. I hear a lot of complaints about every DVC. My advice to anyone is to try the resorts that you want to try and form your own opinion.pixiedust:

How wonderful that you and DD had such a great vacation together. All too soon those little girl days pass. Thanks for the report!

Thanks for sharing this, would love to do something similar with my kids someday.

What a great Mother/Daughter trip. Did you daughter have a preference between BLT and BWV?

Sounds like you and your daughter had a great time. We're doing a BLT / BWV split stay this year and I've never stayed at BWV (although I've visited many times) so i'm looking forward to trying it. Glad you had a good time :)

Hi everyone! It was a really special trip. It is so true that our kids grow up so fast. Right now she still loves the characters (we got 38 character autographs)! The Magic is still real for her. I am sure she will always love WDW but the time is fast approaching when she will not be able to suspend reality as easily as she can now and that will be a difference experience. I have 14 year old twins and they love WDW but there are many things that they are no longer awed by. They had their 7th birthday there and it was wonderful. I always told the youngest dd that we couldn't go for her birthday because I was afraid of August and the threat of hurricanes. She would ask me every now and then and I'd say August has bad weather.

Well as luck would have it, we were rained completely out of the WDW portion of our June trip because of tropical Storm Debbie. We did not do any parks which made our youngest extremely sad. I came home and began to plan a make-up trip. We had just enough points for 7nights in a studio for little dd's birthday plus we still had unused tickets. I found great flights at excellent prices. I talked it over with DH and the twins and they thought it would be a great thing to do. We had beautiful weather the whole time. It was hot but not rainy. It was as perfect as could be. We enjoyed our many trips to the 3 pools we visited which included BLT's pool which I forgot to mention. It was sunny and beautiful.:beach:

She enjoyed both immensely but she was really effusive about BWV.pixiedust:

Glad you had a great trip! What day was your DD's birthday? We were at Kidani for my son's 7th birthday on August 5th, then cruised on the Dream for my daughter's 9th birthday on August 14th. She spent the day on Castaway Cay. princess:

Thanks for telling us about the great Mother Daughter trip! Maybe you had one of the Village Green studios. They are a great location. I'm glad you were able to put together such a great trip!

2 weeks ago we were at BLT with our DGS, 8, he loved that resort, he didn't do any parks, we did do the TOTW for fireworks.

My Dd's birthday was on August 16th. Your children's birthday trip sounds amazing! They must've been over the moon!:cool1:
