Saw this on the local news here this evening. What a neat site to look at real estate, yours, the neighborhood, anywhere.

http://www.zillow.com/

May be the next Google. Give it a look, put in your own home, or the area you would like to move to.

Yesterday my dad had an atricle about that site. He thought the site was very interesting.

Very cool site. I think my mother's house came in about $100K too high, and my fiance's about 100K too low. The house next door to him (1000 sq ft smaller, no deck, no garage, one bathroom smaller, roof is 30 years older) sold early this year for $50K more than the zillow price for my fiance's home.

i'de like to know more about how they come up with the values. i checked my cul de sac and my home priced out as the 2nd highest, with only about 25k between us and the top price. the top price house has twice our lot size and a massive amount of landscaping/in ground pool and spa. some of the lower comps have a bit smaller lots than us but nice landscaping with in ground pools and spas. the price is also about 70k more than any truly comparable house (same lot size and same model) has sold for even in the strongest sellers market of the past couple of years.

Methinks me house is not worth what this says. Wrong these figures are. Entertaining it still was.

Interesting! I checked my old neighborhood in MA and they've got it a bit wrong. Across the street from us were 3 houses. They've listed 6! :confused3 They did, however, get the date on the sale of our house there and the price correct.

The estimate of the value of the houses in our area in Florida was just a bit high but pretty close. Really cool site though for getting a general idea of what properties are going for what amount in a neighborhood.

Thanks for posting this! :goodvibes

A fun site! But the price estimates are just that........estimates. A lot of factors (condition of roof, condition of plumbing, foundation issues, age of furnace and a/c, etc...) can determine how much an old house would be worth.

It is an interesting site and it gives a good ballpark figure for what a house in the neighborhood should run. Thanks for posting it!

fun site. the prices are definitely off (we just bought our house in november and we know what ours and others in our neighborhood have sold for). the year builts are off by a few years in a couple of cases (I'm having fun searching all the houses I've lived in).

My house was there, including the rv my ex finally moved.

Are you sure 3 more houses weren't built after you left? ;) I am partly serious since I have seen a lot of homes built in my area of MA and I live in a very developed area. I can think of a few places where they knocked down 1 home and built 2 on the same lot!

The estimate for my area seemed pretty good.

They obviously get some information from taxes because my house had the right sq footage (we did an addition/remodel a few years ago and our taxes finally got updated this year) but had some other things incorrect but the estimate was good anyway.

Also there is a range value if you click on the home. The range is probably accurate for most people as it was pretty large range for mine.

Yup, really sure. It was an old, established neighborhood. You would have needed a shoe horn to put another house in there. Funny thing is that they had our side of the street correct. It was the other side that added homes. :confused3

My 110 year old home price was inflated 10 years ago, but I think now what it is assessed at has finally reached that mark. Though land in my area is more valuable than homes. Acres for farmers used to go for $800-$1500, know you can't touch an acre of land for $5,000 and I seen it as high as $15,000 an acre.

The prices seem a little low for my neighborhood, but not much. all of the houses in my grandmother's neighborhood are listed as less than $2K. LOL

Nice site to play around with. They don't have any estimates for homes in my area. Just the tax.

I played with the site a bit last night, my area. It seemed pretty accurate for our neighborhood. We have been in our home since we were married, 35 years, and based on the homes in the area which have sold recently (which were accurate as to their selling prices) I think it is about in the ballpark. It certainly, as they say, is for estimating, and you can, if you want, go through a few adjustment steps to make it more accurate (not updating their system though). I have no stake in the site for promoting it, LOL, (but I did reply for their email updates, would like to know when they go public) but thought it pretty good for a site that just came online a few days ago. It will be interesting to see how and if they succeed.

This site was $140,000 off on our house. $20,000 off on our investment property. And $50,000 off on my father's house. Not very good, INHO
