we're off to the UK next Sept/Oct and just booked the Sofitel for the night before we fly back here ....

normally we use a suite which has always been around the 230 pound mark, this time I went on the Sofitel website and booked 2 twin rooms at 76 pounds each (152 pounds total), interconnecting, and when the reservation came back its one twin room and one double bed room ..... perfect!!

saved 100 pounds on the usual cost, so anyone looking at Gatwick hotels ..... Sofitel is doing some great deals on 2009 rooms!

I just booked a room for myself for next year, same price £76. Its so more civilized travellling down the day before and sleeping at the airport.

Fantastic deal! I just tried to book for next October though, and the only rooms that come up are a day room, or rooms that include parking - and we don't need that. Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong :confused3

mine said day room too - I booked it anyway and it came back as checkin 9/10, checkout 10/10 which is what I asked for. Why it says day room I dont know.

infact even on the confirmation email it says 1 night, with the dates and then the description of the room still says day room, though the price says 'per night'.

Thanks for that! They are great prices! Going to book today. Thanks again for the tip :goodvibes

I have booked, got the same information as you - definitely says one night, check in 21 October, check out 22nd. A bit nervous about it, but it is fully cancellable so I'll keep a check on the prices and see what happens!

I love it! Never has the Sofitel been so cheap - this is now the same price for a room as the Holiday Inn, and I know where I'd rather stay!

Just been checking this and on the 'sales conditions of rate' it says - Package Inclusions : Not for overnight stays

So it may be best to ring and confirm what the rate says as I would hate anyone to get there and find it is a day rate and the hotel is full that night. I notice often that day rate for things go from one day to the following when that is not strictly true.

this is where its weird - my booking has the following wording:
'from 09/10/09 to 10/10/09 - i.e. 1 night'

then it says Day Use London

then in the box at the bottom it has the details: Service - Room, Dates concerned - 09/10/09 - 10/10/09, Rate - 65 GPB average rate/night

so it confirms its for the night, its booked them for the night and yet it says day. I wont change it, lets see what happens:thumbsup2

I must admit, I am a bit apprehensive. I booked, but only because it's fully cancellable and we don't have to pay until checkout. But I will check with Sofitel in a few months time, just to check we can actually stay for the night! Worst case scenario is I'll cancel and book another room for what we would usually pay anyway. It is a very misleading offer from Sofitel if you are only allowed the room for a day - it does clearly state that the stay is for 1 night, check in 21st, check out 22nd.

we too looked at this offer so we phoned sofitel gatwick direct..The lady in reservations told us this is a DAY RATE ONLY not overnight stay. Its a computer problem with the dates..however she did say if we booked and turned up they would if full move you to another hotel which she never stated which one.

we have booked the hilton gatwick king size room dinner and breakfast through tesco for just £45 of vouchers...that makes sofitel very expensive...

as the lady says at sofitel if your brave take the gamble..were not

regards

Thanks for the info....

I'm just wondering what times the day rooms would mean - if it is from say 9am to 5pm (just guessing!), then I can't see how they could book that room for an overnight stay, given that the other guest could check in from 2pm. In that respect, it might be a gamble worth taking - it's difficult to say how they could be full! I will probably lose my nerve however :goodvibes

strang thing is is that these are the only rooms they show as available ??? I mean I typed in our dates for the reservation .... which is a long time away, and normally you would expect a few types or rooms andrates to appear but these were the only ones - saying day rate. And it says more than once on my booking that its overnight so I'll take my chances - I have an accor card as well so seeif that helps:confused3

I called up as well and the stroppy woman on the phone said the rates were "clearly advertised" as day rates and that the dates and references to overnight stays were to be disregarded. She said that if I turned up having booked one of these rates and wanted the room for the night I would be liable to pay the difference between what I paid and the rack rate upon check-in. I'm not going to risk it!

My reservation is for checking in on 20th September, checking out 21st September that can not be a day rate.

Room 20/09/2009 > 21/09/2009 65.00 GBP Average rate / night 1 adult(s) 76.38 GBP

Breakfast extra Sep 20, 2009 > Sep 21, 2009
16.95 GBP Average rate / night / person

Have to say, I agree. We are both lawyers too, without wishing to sound pompous, it's a no-brainer. If it were just DH and I, I wouldn't think twice. My concern is for the 'on the night' problem if one should arise with 2 kids!

I've had this somewhere else before where it said night rate, gate dates of over night, but stated a 'day relax room' I think it was.

when we got there they said - 'well it clearly states is a day relax room'

I said it also clearly states that the dates are overnight and the nighly rate ... so you say my bit is wrong, I say your bit is wrong, which is wrong?

they cannot prove which bit of it is incorrect basically as it states both things. Plus the room shouldnt be booked out to anyone else as it clearly states our arrival and departure dates which are computer booking generated from their system.

I do love a good argue at the fron tdesk ;)

I do agree with you - and anyway, as I said before, I can't see how a day room can also be booked out for the same day as an overnight stay , since the check in / check out times cross. We are out of the room by 8:30 in the morning in any event, so it hopefully wouldn't be a problem.

I also think you make a good point that it's basically the only room that comes up as available for booking, the other two rooms are park and fly packages. All very odd!

I thought I would email Sofitel with my booking ref and ask for room views etc - I stated the booking ref and dates and thought that if it was just a day rate they would obviously pick this error up and tell me ..... and I got this:

To xxxxxx

I have added your A/Club card number to your bookings and have noted the requests for rooms on a high floor and with airport view. These requests are subject to availability, but we will do our very best to meet these requests.

Emiah

Hi,

we have a booking with you - arriving 9/10/09, departing 10/10/09 ref: C97-OCxx, 2 adjoining rooms.

Please can you attach my Accor membership number to the booking - 3081031002424xxx - and also can we ask for the rooms to be on a high floor overlooking the runway for the kids to watch.

so I gave them the opportunity to tell me the reservation was wrong - if it indeed was just day use - and they havent. So I guess all is okay.
