Great pics of Morimoto Asia but review bad

We may try it out but their sushi menu looks extremely limited. We absolutely love sushi and have some great restaurants around our house, we are very spoiled. We usually like the "special" rolls, but it looks like this restaurant is more limited to your typical rolls that would be like the "small" rolls. Not very exciting so we are still undecided.

They have more traditional choices up at the sushi bar. The tables only get the select menu.

Went the third week of December. 4 adults, 2 children. Three of us, foreign-born Chinese. They made a big deal when we entered about celebrating a 50th birthday. We ordered quite a variety of food - the $46 steak, the Lobster Chow Fun, Peking Duck, sushi, other apps. It was the most underwhelming meal of the week, and I don't go to Disney for the food. Oh, and not even a toothpick as a 50th birthday acknowledgement. And, hey, we don't care about it, but why did you mention the birthday at the outset if you were going to ignore it? Completely ignore it, then, and don't mention it. I would have forgotten that I was asked the month before when making the reservation about any celebrations.

In regards to the food, for the Lobster Chow Fun, it was definitely an attempt to be generous, with more lobster than noodles. BUT, working lobster out of the partial remaining shell with chopsticks at a finer restaurant...eh...I'd have gladly traded 2/3 of the lobster for shelled lobster and a boatload more chow fun. That's the thing with chow fun...you order it because you LIKE noodles...big fat stinkin' noodles. :teeth: The sushi the night we were there was quite good, and the steak made our meat and potatoes guy happy. Though, he was a bit surprised that the steak was IT. Might have been a wee bit of garnish. Maybe. I don't remember.

Even though it'll be a long time before we'll head there again, try it for yourself. Not everyone has the same background or access to Asian food, and just like the rest of WDW, on any given day, it could be a really good choice for a meal. If nothing else, the room is pretty spectacular.

My husband, just read this review and said it's more complimentary than he would have been. He did like my toothpick joke though. :o

I read quite a lot of reviews on many different sites and the majority seemed to be unfavorable so I canceled the ADR for our upcoming trip. We will wait until next year and see how it is doing to give it a try. I don't expect top-of-the-line "best food I have ever eaten" anywhere in WDW but I would expect a very good meal with good service at those prices and 3 and 1/2 stars on Yelp just don't cut it as far as I am concerned.

I stopped reading when she said "nobody goes to Disney World for the food."

Umm......I do. Dining, to me, is a big part of the Disney experience and we've had some really excellent meals during our visits!

Anyone snobby or uninformed enough not to realize that shouldn't be reviewing Disney restaurants, full stop.

I totally agree with you. The food is always a big part of our trip and something I look forward to.

I was there in November and loved it. Thought the place was stunning and opted for a seat at the sushi bar ( fabulous). Ordered dim sum and sushi. The dim sum was just okay but the sushi was outstanding. Had a specialty cocktail that was also really delicious. We can't wait to go back. Restaurant reviews are so subjective. Give the place a chance then if you don't like it, don't go again.

We enjoyed it last weekend, but it's definitely not up to the standard of Morimoto in Philadelphia. Everything we had was good, but not great. Service was very friendly and helpful, but I felt like our server didn't really understand the ingredients or the concept well enough to do justice when giving recommendations. Bar service was extremely slow. I would return, but my expectations will be lower next time around. The one standout dish I really loved was, oddly enough, my dessert...the mochi mochi. Highly recommended.

I thought I read somewhere that you can order sushi from your table beyond the select menu if requested? Does anyone know if this is true or not?

That may be new (can someone confirm please?). That definitely was not the case back in November, but the restaurant had just opened. You needed to be seated upstairs (either the bar or the tables there) for the sushi at that time.

I think this restaurant looks stunning inside, but I was really disappointed to read this review. Has anyone else been and had a good experience with food and service? Is the sushi good?

We were totally unimpressed and would not go back. Being a foodie I was really excited to give Morimoto's a try and everything except the soup was average at best. Stick to California Grille for sushi while at WDW. I was told to go to his place in Philadelphia if we want to taste his best. We will see.

Agree with you on Morimoto Asia... And while I like Cali Grill, Kimonos has the best sushi (at the Swan Resort).... and is more reasonably priced. :teeth:

I was soooooo looking forward to eating here, but as someone from the us who gets good Asian food, this was similar to any of the places back home but 3 times the price. I left disappointed

My wife and I thought the food and service were terrible.

Walk a few more steps to The Boathouse, the food there is very good.

We ate there in early December. I ordered the Peking Duck and was very disappointed to find the fat hadn't been rendered at all, the skin was not crispy and the meat was very greasy. The native Chinese couple next to us had the same experience; unfortunately they were served too late for us to change our order. We won't be back.

Totally different animals. This is Disney running a restaurant and licensing his name for branding. Morimoto in Philly is actually his restaurant in name and spirit.

We visited in November, and it was actually our favorite meal of the trip. Our server was fabulous, and we had a great time visiting with her. I had a cocktail she recommended with green tea and the duck ramen, which she also recommended. Both were very very good.

My husband and I ate there this week and enjoyed our meal. We each had a cocktail (Hibiscus Sazcerac and Sake Sangria) along with two sushi rolls, pork dumplings and the Pho. It was a bit pricey, but we expected that when we made our reservation. I would definitely go back!

We had a great experience in November. My oldest and I ordered several of the dim sum items (one of each type actually), I think I had some soup (sorry my memory's a little fuzzy) my daughter ordered mac and cheese (yeah I know, nothing I can do with her) and they happily added shrimp for her. My husband ordered the Chef's Special sushi platter, which was the real standout. He said it was some of the better sushi he's had, which is saying something since he's been eating it on a regular basis for over 20 years. Our server was great; he wasn't slow but he did let us go at a relaxed pace. I don't remember what drinks we ordered but we both really enjoyed them. We enjoyed Kimonos as well, but the atmosphere here blows it out of the water. Other than Raglan Road it's by far our favorite restaurant we've tried so far. We'll definitely return.
