Great Movie Ride Closing August 13

We actually arrive on Aug 13th. I had no intention of going to a park that day since we're driving from MI, but will now be driving like a bat out of hell to get to DHS for one last ride. My family loves GMR and dd is heartbroken. For crying out loud, there's practically nothing left! Really bad timing Disney

I'm going the 11th and the 15th. Now I have to make sure I hit the ride on the 11th as my son love the ride. I'm debating changing a fast pass on the 15th to Great movie ride if its still offered. Reason being they would likely make it an any pass or risk massively upset customers that can't get another fast pass. Of course knowing Disney they probably just say too bad so sad.

Just checked my itinerary and I have DHS planned on August 12th. No way I will waste a tier 1 fast pass on the great movie ride, but I'll ride it if there is a short wait or I can get a 4th fast pass for it.

I am so heartbroken! GMR is one of my absolute favorites. We will be there the first week of Sept. I heard this was coming but thought I'd get to ride it again. So bummed! And now thinking YC, for its proximity to 2 parks, is suddenly overrated.

This is a bummer . We won't be there until August 19th. I really would have liked to ride both Ellen and GMR one more time.

Guess I'm in the minority, but not sad to see it go. Maybe it just needed to be updated, but something had to be done.

On our three generational family trip, the grandparents loved it, parents were ok with it, and the kids hated it.

Wow! I am shocked to see how many people love this ride! I would have never thought of it as an iconic ride.

Maybe it's because my nostalgia is rooted in the early 80's with Magic Kingdom and Epcot. MGM, then DHS never really took hold of me for some reason. We pretty much didn't go to WDW after the 80's until 2000, so I guess we missed that train.

But Animal Kingdom sure took a place in my heart!

But I can sympathize, my heart still hurts when I think of Horizons.

I am sorry to see GMR go. I also think it could have refurbished to showcase Disney films either live action or animated or both. I don't really understand what they are rebranding HS to be?

i would bet money on there being double the wait time for the great movie ride since it is closing. I didn't realize it was tier 1 though.

We arrive the same day with no intention of going into the parks that day. My heart completely shattered this evening because I thought for sure I would get to ride one of my top 5 attractions one last time. I'm not sure if adding extra days to our tickets will be worth it as I expect the line to be insane.

I adored this ride as a child and was even supposed to transfer there when I worked in the parks--my training was scheduled, but had to move to assist a family member. I'm so sad over this--some if my greatest ride memories were on this ride. I knew it was closing, but NEVER imagined it would go this fast. I don't even know what to do about our plans at this point.

I gotta say, this is pretty crappy news. I always liked the ride, and never skipped it. DHS is going to seem completely gutted when we go. Hardly any rides. Oh, but that creaky old Indy show is still going...

Also, Splash Mountain (one of my favorites) will be closed during our trip (and it was closed at Disneyland, too, when I went last year!!). And Ellen. Mission Space? (not sure, we'll be there in October). And...God knows what else

The thing that I don't like about the GMR closing is what it's being replaced by. The new mickey ride sounds incredibly stupid aside from the "2.5D" technology. The use of 3D without 3D glasses will be cool, but other than that it looks pretty boring so far.

I think the great movie ride is a staple for the park and it would've made way more sense to put it elsewhere

I've heard very little about the planned replacement. Where did you read about it?

Same here, I'm seriously a bit upset about this news. NOT excited about that Mickey ride at all. I would have preferred to have it updated and refreshed. They didn't give much of a final warning, did they? I agree about DHS not being a full day park now. Hopefully Ellens Energy will still be there in Sept. for one more ride.

I dont understand how people say it is a half day park. If you see the two nightimes shows that is two half days right there since it is very difficult to see both in one night and then there is stuff that is only during the day like multiple meet and greets, beauty and the beast show, etc. We are here for nine days right now and we are doing four half days just to get to everything we want to do with our five year old.

So sad, we arrive aug 27 and wanted to ride GMR and Ellen for a last good-bye-ride. Didn't expect them to closed it so fast. We have warm memories to this Rides as we did them on our first WDW vacation 20 years back. They were part of Disneyworld for us. Bye bye

I'm glad I said Good bye to this in April. Will miss this a lot even though it can be hit or miss.

So sad! I just started getting the "something's wrong with your fastpass" emails. August 18. Can't even try to change it because DD and I arrive the 14th!

Like PP said, guess we've already had our last GMR!
