Great hotels around the holidays?

Im in the process of planning a holiday trip. Contemplated staying at CR, but after years of staying onsite and offsite, I'm just not sure I want to spend the $$$. Aside from thenGaylord, are there any offsite hotels that do,a great job decorating and/or have activities? We're going 12/19-12/24.
