OK,
Like many people, I am not overly fond of going to the doctor. In fact, I avoided it for years. Many physicians that I had visited over the years detected what they saw as "high blood pressure". I usually was able to divert them by claiming to "just be nervous in Doctor's offices". (I know, only hurting myself)
Well the Doctor that I started seeing about 2 years ago would have none of that. He said, "I understand nervous...sit here for 10 minutes to calm down, and I will take it again". UGH!
He was not going to fall for my evasion! Well, it was still high, so he started me on medication, and scheduled lab teasts the next day. The results came back, and I also had extremely high cholesterol. The overall number was in the high 260's.
He started me on Zocor, which lowered it a bit. (to 226 after 6 months, where it has held). My blood pressure came down to "borderline high".
Since beginning the Challenge, and starting Atkins, my blood pressure (which I monitor at home twice a day), has dropped to the "good" range!!
While I have yet to return to the "dreaded" Doctor for another round of blood work, I was intrigued enough to purchase a home testing kit for cholesterol (just to see if I was secretly killing myself with red meat)! LOL
Well, I just read my results (there are 2 sets of tests in it to confirm accuracy)............
and my overall cholesterol has dropped to 140. (this test does not break it down to "good/bad" cholesterol.
So I at least have the peace of mind that it is moving in the right direction!!
(More confirmation for me that I am doing the RIGHT thing by staying on Atkins as a way of life)
