OK,

Like many people, I am not overly fond of going to the doctor. In fact, I avoided it for years. Many physicians that I had visited over the years detected what they saw as "high blood pressure". I usually was able to divert them by claiming to "just be nervous in Doctor's offices". (I know, only hurting myself)

Well the Doctor that I started seeing about 2 years ago would have none of that. He said, "I understand nervous...sit here for 10 minutes to calm down, and I will take it again". UGH!

He was not going to fall for my evasion! Well, it was still high, so he started me on medication, and scheduled lab teasts the next day. The results came back, and I also had extremely high cholesterol. The overall number was in the high 260's.

He started me on Zocor, which lowered it a bit. (to 226 after 6 months, where it has held). My blood pressure came down to "borderline high".

Since beginning the Challenge, and starting Atkins, my blood pressure (which I monitor at home twice a day), has dropped to the "good" range!!

While I have yet to return to the "dreaded" Doctor for another round of blood work, I was intrigued enough to purchase a home testing kit for cholesterol (just to see if I was secretly killing myself with red meat)! LOL

Well, I just read my results (there are 2 sets of tests in it to confirm accuracy)............

and my overall cholesterol has dropped to 140. (this test does not break it down to "good/bad" cholesterol.

So I at least have the peace of mind that it is moving in the right direction!!

:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

(More confirmation for me that I am doing the RIGHT thing by staying on Atkins as a way of life) :)

Wow that is a great benefit and motivator to stay on track John!
It doesn't seem to make sense, but that happens for so many people, it's amazing, don't you agree? Too bad you didn't live closer, I'd give you some of the fish we catch, to take the place of some of that red meat!
I hope that doesn't happen to me my blood pressure is 90/60...I'll be dead if it goes any lower..., LOL
Here's wishing you continued success:D

John --- YOU are my 'American Idol'!:teeth:

I am so happy for you! And your results are showing that this is just what you needed to get yourself moving in a healthy direction. Now make that Doctor appointment NOW -- Hurry ---

(Why are you still on the computer?)

Seriously -- you should go to the Doctor and get some 'official' readings as he may need to adjust the medication that you are currently on.

Great Job!
:D

That is great new John. Guess you have proven that healthy eating does have very good health benefits.:)

But you really should go see a doctor and have him check your blood pressure. I hope you call and make an appointment.

That sounds great John......but get thee to the doc ;)
(easy to say.....I hate going too)

That is awesome!!!!!!

I really do believe there is something to a protein rich diet. The other day a man in his 60's came over to my table at a health fair and he had a cholesterol reading of 143 (they were testing it at the fair) He said he LOVES eating eggs and he eats them every day!

I had mine checked there too....178 which is about 30 points lower than I was about a year ago, but I have to attribute mine to all the weight lifting!;)

BP was down to 104/63!

That is great news John, now get yourself over to the Dr. and get it done officially...You are an inspiration, and you should be so proud of ALL your accomplishments :)

I had exactly the same thing happen John!!! Isn't it way better than taking meds? :)

John- I really need you to go to that Dr. and get those numbers checked officially! Of course, I do this out of sheer selfish needs! Your story is a constant motivator for me and those numbers will just me one more thing to move towards!

My husbands triglycerides dropped 98 points after only 3 weeks on Atkins, so did his other lipids.

His numbers are even better now.

Congratulations, John. I would think you couldn't wait to go see that doctor just to see how surprised he is at the change in you.

THAT IS GREAT NEWS!!!!

Way to go, John!!!! I am sure the doctor will be very delighted once you get some "official" results back! ;)

Keep up the great work! Resist that pizza, ha ha!

anniet and John - You guys should have your own reality show, instead of showing millions of Americans how to get lucky or to eat bugs you could show them how through determination and perseverance you can have a healthier lifestyle.
