We have reservations for Friday into Saturday (this weekend!). It will be my DH, myself, and our 2 children (5 & 6). Any tips? Do we need to bring anything particular - life jacket/vests? Do they have a "regular" pool or just the waterpark? Are there any reasonable family restaurants in the area that can be recommended for dinner? Our expectations aren't set that high - it's just nice to get out as a family away from the every day hustle/bustle for a change (DH & I work opposite shifts alot due to daycare issues. Only 6 more months of that!) and we all enjoy waterparks/swimming.

TIA!

I can help- although it has been about 18 months since DD (age 9 at the time) and I went to Great Escape Lodge.

They just have the waterpark pools- no 'regular' pool. The waterpark area was a blast! The did have a 'quieter' section for smaller kids that your youngest still might appreciate.

All the rooms have small fridges and microwaves so it was easy to bring popcorn for snacks and breakfast food so you weren't having to shell out the $$ for an average muffin or boxed cereal.

As to the local area- my recollection is that it is a pretty sparten area but there may have been a Pizza Hut or Pizzeria Uno just down the road. Also there is a small mall down the road too- I don't know what the restaurant situation is there but there might be something.

As to vest/lifejackets- if your kids have them and are comfortable in their own- you might just throw them in the car. I can't remember if they had them but I would think they might. They do have lockers right next to the water area that you can rent so you don't have to have somebody watching your stuff.

Hope that helps!

Have fun!

I can't really respond to what the pools are like, because I've never been to the lodge. I can, however, talk about the area since I live fairly close and I grew up there (one of my many summer jobs as a teen was at Great Escape).

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. If you take a right out of the Lodge (south on rte9), you will come to the Queensbury area. They have all the chain restaurants (Outback, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Panera, numerous fast food places, Starbucks...). There are also quite a few local establishments. We like the Cherry Tomato at the corner of 149 and Bay rd. You would take a left (north on 9) and less than a mile later you would take a right on 149. After a couple miles you would come to the Cherry Tomato. It will be on your right (It's small). For a restaurant with okay pub food, a little slow service, but a spectacular view try the Docksider on Glen Lake. I'm not exactly sure how the Lodge exits onto rte9, but I think it comes out right across from Glen Lake rd. If it does, take Glen Lake rd for a couple of miles and the Docksider is on your right.

You can also go up to Lake George and look around for restaurants. I would imagine that some would be open for the holiday weekend. There are more places in Glens Falls and Saratoga, but I don't know how far you want to travel for food.

Whatever you do, I hope you have fun!
