I have a Nook tablet that I love, but I could not pass this deal up! Barnes and Noble had the Nook HD (7" tablet) and HD+ (9" tablet) on sale with free shipping! The HD is $129 and the HD+ is $149. They now come with Google Play so you can get Android apps (and you can even download the Kindle Reader on it). I can't wait for it to come in! :cool1:

That is a great price, and I would love something to take away with me that is smaller than my laptop. Does the nook HD have an SD slot?

It has a microsd slot. I bought the Nook HD+ when it went on sale right before Father's Day. I love it! I've never really considered a tablet before, but at that price, I couldn't resist. :)

So I could store my pics on there? Also, I can surf the web too?
If so I don't think I can pass this up!

I love my Nook! I am on my third model I love them so much, I have to get he new one when it comes out every time. Yes you can store all your photos and surf the web where there is Wifi.
Also if you go to a Barnes and Noble you get free Wifi and can read a ton of books on it for one hour per book. I love getting a drink and sitting in a comfy chair with mine checking out new books. I have an Asus Infinity that I love but I use my Nook HD waaay more. It fits in my purse and I don't leave the house with out it!

I'm happy about them including the Google Play! I have the 8 gb Nook Tablet and I have tons of pictures, books and apps and I still have almost 2 gb free. I've never used the SD card slot. I might fill the new one up with all those free Android apps! :)

Oh, and Barnes and Noble also had a good collection of free catalogs that can be downloaded on the HD models! (LL Bean, Plow & Hearth, Pottery Barn, etc.) You can request one issue or a subscription.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll get so that I don't have to lug my laptop with me to WDW. I already have a Kindle (keyboard one, not the fire) for reading and I love that but I want something more portable than my big laptop so I can surf and store any photos I take on vacation sounds like the nook will be perfect for that.

Thanks OP for posting!

Can you play facebook games on it? Bejewled or Candy Crush? Is it like the Kindle in which you have to pay to not see ads all of the time?

Please be very cautious about these lowball deals on Nook tablets. The Nook brand is all-but on life support as rumors swirl that B&N will be taken private and either spin off or shutter the Nook brand. They are aggressively pricing the Nook hardware to prop up subscriber numbers, which after a couple of years of decent growth were flat to falling over the last year or so.

Keep in mind, also, that one possible suitor for Nook should B&N sell it is Microsoft, and heaven only knows that the Purple Flyin' Tile Interface folks would do to it should that arise.

Not saying you *shouldn't* pick up one of these Nooks, but keep in mind there's a reason they're being lowballed. Many of these Nooks have already been rooted with third-party ROMs available that turn them into a "regular" stock Android device.

There are several good, "straight Android" tablet devices out there, and the Nook reader software can be installed on just about any of them, so keep that in mind as you consider these B&N offerings. Just be cautious and informed.

DH just called from work to tell me we should go out this weekend and use our B&N gift cards, because it isn't looking good for them. He seems to think the Nook and the web side of things will continue.

I was worried about that too. However, everything I can find points to nothing happening with B&N for at least 2 years. And most people will upgrade to a new tablet before 2 years is up.

Really? I've been reading quite a bit about B&N, and I haven't seen the "all's OK for 2 years" optimism you have.

B&N is hemorrhaging cash, and MS' offer to buy Nook outright looks like a pipe dream at this point as the value of the component continues to fall. And B&N has yet to take a position publicly on the offer for its founder, Leonard Riggio, to buy up the retail side of the company and go private, leaving Nook orphaned.

B&N has already announced they are shifting any future Nook hardware development to third-party vendors, meaning they're getting rid of existing inventory to help stop the bleeding.

I, personally, can't see B&N and Nook persisting in their current form for two more years.

News is reporting this morning that B&N is shuttering the tablets and is selling off inventory until Christmas.

Yep, I saw that on my local news this morning also. They said they will continue to produce Nook e-readers, but the tablets are done.

So they aren't going to sell the tablets anymore, but they will still work? Hey still will access google play and apps and such? Wha exactly does this mean for nook tablet users?

I don't think that's entriley accurate. They've reported that they will no longer be making the tablets in-house but wil be looking for a partner to manufacture the readers.

Bejeweled and candy crush are in the Google play store, so should be accessible. As far as ads goes, lots of free apps have ads even if you purchase an ad-free tablet, so those ads would still appear. We have two Kindle Fire tablets with ads, and the ads only ads from Kindle appear on the opening unlock screen, and along the bottom edge of the homescreen it shows suggested books based on what you have already downloaded. Not very intrusive.

This is from this article from cnet: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33153_7-57591141-10391733/does-it-still-make-sense-to-buy-a-nook-hd/

"Concerned about the future? Don't be. In hindsight, B&N's recent addition of Google Play access was an early reassurance to users that their Nooks would continue to be highly functional for years to come. And you can always root the tablets to run a "purer" version of the Android OS.

If you're worried about the accessory market drying up, just buy a case and a couple of spare power cords now and you're all set."

This is a good idea...I will get an extra cord. LOL!
