Great Deal on March Break flight

The March Break flights on West Jet just came up and we got a direct flight from London ON to Orlando (Sat - Sat) for $1470 all in for the three of us. It was actually CHEAPER than the Delta flights out of Detroit! The only negative was that we had to pay to choose our seats but we don't have to pay for our bags.

We're looking at staying off site this time as a compromise with DH but we're going back to Disney!!

Delta flights out of Detroit have gone up significantly for the past year and a half. We are going on a Fantasy cruise next Febuary and Delta is $320.00 while A/C is $440.00 and Westjet is $560/person. The price gap seems to be closing. I have flew out of Detroit for every vacation since 2002 but for the approx. $100/person and the inconvenience of crossing the border, the time and travel costs, I may think this one over.

Thanks for posting that the dates were available. We are now booked for our cruise -- I had been waiting until I was able to book it through AirMiles.

But for three of us, AirMiles was still going to charge us $1,200 in taxes and fees. To pay cash, however, it's $1,500. So that puts a very low price on the points, as it turns out. We elected to pay the extra $300, and will see if we can stretch our AirMiles somewhere else.

Booked ours on Friday night. Direct from Ottawa on Friday 9th (late afternoon flight) with return flight Sunday 17th (afternoon again). We're staying as long as we can this time! $269pp inbound, $199pp outbound. All-in it is cheaper than our 2011 WJ flights by a few hundred $$.

Staying at our home away from home (Sheraton Vistana Resort) for the first 7 nights, not sure what we'll do for the other 2 nights. The extra nights at Sheraton are pretty pricey right now.

I'd like to take the kids on a trip next march break but have no idea what the dates are. you are lucky to find out this far ahead of time. I don't even know what day school will start in September.

Our school boards in Ontario seem to have their calendars out for next year. Here is a link for Nova Scotia that listed next year's........not sure if it applies to your school board or not?

In Nova Scotia the school calendar as it pertains to March break is determined at the Department of Education, so all boards have the same break (unless the DOE changes things like they did for Halifax in the year the Canada games occurred in Halifax). This is out well in advance, in fact 2013 was out in early 2012, which gives more than a year's advanced notice.

If you can't find out when your NS break is, then call the Minister of Education's Office and ask the secretary. No biggie, people do that all the time.

Thanks for the link. I didn't know it existed. I will still have to wait and see because it only lists general dates. Each school board can have different dates for schools starting and March break, although March break is usually the same province wide but there have been times when it was different as Ted mentioned above.

The prices for next March are jumping in price like crazy! A week ago I paid 415 return Tor to Orlando. They are now over $1000.00 same time and day.

I'm saving up my Air Miles for tickets to Universal - we want to do one day there for Harry Potter. 2 1-day/1-park tickets are 1500 Air Miles.

For flights, I've joined the WestJet point club and gotten their Mastercard through RBC. You get 1.5% cash back in 'Westjet' dollars - no blackouts or anything, you just decide when you want to fly, book and apply your dollars to the total.

Holy cow! We booked on Friday night, it is now Wednesday and WJ flights have increased by over $1200 for 4 people. I am glad we booked early!!

Yeah! Thanks for telling me about the price increases. I knew they were coming but everyone thinks I'm crazy for booking so early. Now I can gloat (a little bit )
