GREAT AVIS DEAL!! $149/week SUV! thru 6/30

Thanks for tip I saw email but who knows what I did with my copy you just saved me 300.00 or 100.00 from what I was goinmg to go with.

Out of curiosity, how did you sign up for their e-mails? Was it through a Wizard Number or Preferred Service registration?

ETA: I just found this code on Mousesavers and Car Rental Deals, so I'm hoping it is legit!! Definitely the least expensive rate I've found so far.

They have a place to click and sign up for emails, I think it is on the right side but I forget which screen it is on. I am signed up for emails with several rental companies, but it seems like you need to re-do it every 6-12 months, because the emails seems to slow down to a crawl after awhile (which can be a blessing of course.)

UPDATE:

I was reading the other thread here for Feb car rentals, and was able to do better with National. I am an Emerald member, and like to chose my own car. and my bottom line price went from $221 with Avis to $164 with National, using the same dates (Feb 5-10), and still for the mid SUV. I have no Saturday night stay, so no coupons will work. And technically, the Avis deal SAYS it requires a Sat night stay (but seemed to give me a lower rate anyway, but it could cause me trouble using it).

I used National ID 5026050 United mileage Plus code. (That code is for Mileage Plus, which I did not even remember I already belonged to. I think because this is United FF program, and I previously belonged to Continental's, before the merger. In any case, anyone can join it and use the code.) This National code did NOT give me a good rate for my April 29-May 6th trip however, so for that one I stuck with the Avis rate.

So, I tried the Avis code as we have been trying to find an SUV or Van to rent for 3/16/12-3/25/12 and I could not get the Avis code to work...so I chatted on line with an Avis rep who sent me the following message (I am in Birmingham, Al) " for the location that you want to pick up they don't have that special that your trying to get this is only for corporate location ... and around your area they only have Licensee locations".

Anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking online for weeks and the prices are still outrageous for the dates we need. I even tried extending to 3/15/12-3/26/12 thinking this may make a difference.

Thanks

OK, I NEVER use Avis, but I guess I signed up for their emails. I booked 2 rentals with this offer. And one does not include a Sat night stay, and it went thru (did not see the requirement until now). For one of them I also added the $30 off from Costco (the one that included a Sat night stay).

I need an SUV for my son's large Convaid chair.

Thanks McDuck!! I had a compact reserved with Hertz for 5/1 - 5/8 for $272.73. I really didn't want to use Hertz for a variety of reasons and wanted a larger car. Reserved Avis today for $232 (using rate code and coupon). :thumbsup2

just to clarify...you're trying to rent from Birmingham and that location is not working?

Yes, that is correct. We live just outside of Birmingham, Al...so would rent from somewhere in the Birmingham, Al ...I noticed there was an Avis in Trussville, Al also which is also in our area

ahh I thought you meant you were renting at Orlando's airport and that the location wasn't valid. sorry for the silly question!

I don't know if this will work for my dates, as it won;t let me choose any dates earlier than November 2012?!? Anyone else having problems with their website?

Just a side note! We reserved a small SUV out of Baltimore, MD From Feb 11-21. The TOTAL COST included tax is $289.00. NOw I did enter the COSTCO CODE which will give us $30 ADDITIONAL DOLLARS OFF! I did call AVIS and they said it will be substracted from YOUR BILL when YOU return the car. So, in essense we will be paying $259.00 for the SUV! ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! Now the COSTO coupon is: MUGA049. Now when you go through all the steps for your reservation it will state this right under your ESTIMATED TOTAL:

Notes:
•Coupon deductions are NOT included in the estimated total, but will be calculated and applied at the time of rental.
•Your rate was calculated based on the information provided. Some modifications may change this rate
.

Hope this helps everyone out!

I just rebooked again, using Costco and Alamo.

Costco now has you enter your Costco membership number when you book (new to me, you need a Costco travel as well). I got my SUV down to $137 total cost, Feb 5-10.

I think they are now requiring people to be Costco members to get Costco benefits, my husband was asked for his Costco card last week in Las Vegas (first time either of us have been asked).

I have Alamo Insiders membership card, but I can't see any way to get both my Insiders on the reservation AND the total Costco discounted amount. I signed in with Insiders first, and they manually entered the same codes and coupons that was on my Costco reservation. But that came up $30 higher, so it looks like the best Costco rates are thru the Costco website itself, not just entering the Costco codes manually. I might call and see if Alamo can enter my insiders info on their end, I prefer to have it go thru Insiders, it is quicker.

When I'm trying to make a reservation, I don't have a separate box come up to enter the "Rate Code". My only option is a single box for the AWD OR a rate code.

What am I doing wrong?

You just enter the AWD.

HTH!

Thanks so much! Believe it or not when I went to check my rate for April I realized I never changed our car reservation when we changed our vacation dates, so we didn't have a car reserved!!! Can't thank you enough for posting this.
