DH and I just got back late Friday evening.........lots of airline delays on Friday due to weather on the NE coast (DC, PHL, Newark, JFK, LaGuardia....all delayed or cancelled). We were supposed to leave PBI at 1:30 p.m........didn't get off the ground until 4:30 p.m. but........on a good note.......the trip itself was great.....stayed at AKV for the first time.....didn't do ANY parks for the first time......spent 5/11 and 5/12 at AKV then to VB for 5/13, 14 and 15.....again for the first time. Loved both places.......at AKV we didn't get there until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, so, basically just checked in and had a quick counter service at Mara......both had a great turkey sandwich (huge) with fries and Zebra (?) cookies for dessert (a bit too sweet and rich for my taste).....it's not listed on the menu on www.allearsnet.com....so I think Mara has recently changed up the menu a bit. We then met friends who were also at WDW for the week and decided to go to the Adventurer's Club.....there were 4 of them and 2 of us.......so with 6 people the Adventurer's Club can be a LOT of fun.......I think it's a place where the more in your group ....the better. We were there from about 9:30 until close to 1:00 a.m. (we rarely stay out that late when at WDW since we're usually planning an early day to a park!!!) We had a great time at AC anyway.......DH was chosen to participate in an onstage skit in the library with SugarSnap Smith (the Maid). He and about six other guys had to learn how to do the hula. It was hysterical...............needless to say we'll back at the AC in January when we have a Family Reunion of cousins from the East Coast/West Coast!!!!! On Monday, we just had a late breakfast at Boma (as always, excellent) and then lounged by the pool for several hours. Had dinner reservations at the Poly's Kona Cafe....again with our friends......actually had ressie's for only 4 of us.....since the other 2 weren't sure of their plans.....but, then they decided to join us. Our ressie's were for 6:40 p.m.........even with adding 2 more to the ressie we only waited 20 minutes. Food there was great......two of us had the Filet Mignon, which was excellent, two had Coconut Almond Chicken, which they said also excellent, one had the Shrimp and Scallops, excellent, and one only had the Chicken Noodle Soup (she wasn't feeling too well and wanted to eat light). The bread with sweetened macadamia nut butter was out of this world good. DH and I were the only ones opting for dessert (we also did do the basic DDP this trip.....well worth it) He had Chocolate Macadamia Torte and I had the Banana Chocolate creme brulee......both great. We then got drinks from the bar and walked to the Poly's beach and watched Wishes.........had never seen Wishes from this location before.........it was great......will definitely do it again........ Tuesday morning we opted to skip breakfast and have a CS lunch at Wolfgang's Express Marketplace on our way out to VB.............stopped by the Orlando Premium Outlets for an hour or so, then to DTD for lunch, which was chicken tenders for me (very good) and a beef/cheddar sandwich for DH......I think another menu change here.....beef/cheddar isn't listed on www.allearsnet.com either at WPE (he said he likes Earl of Sandwich beef/cheddar better) He had a brownie for dessert and I, again, had creme brulee ......brownie was ok, creme brulee was good. Then, we hit the road for VB, which was also a new experience......not a good one.......since we were headed directly thru Palm Bay where the fires were still burning in some areas. We did hit a lot of traffic in that area.......we found out when we got to VB that some people were still being evacuated......so even though I95 was closed the smaller roads not only had people travelling thru, but, evacuees, also. Took us about 3 hours because of traffic.......and we actually drove thru a few mile area of Route 1 in Palm Bay.......road was open but boths sides still had a lot vegetation smoldering........extensive damages in that area.......I feel very badly for the residents whose homes were destroyed and also, even people whose homes weren't damaged by fire had a lot of smoke damage.
Got to VB later than expected.......about 6:00 p.m. Checked into our OVIR.......right above the Green Cabin Room........absolutely gorgeous ocean views .......
Well, I have dinner ready now.........will finish Trip Report later today........
