When using the DDP, for gratuity are we able to charge it back to our room to pay off with gift cards later? If not, can we pay the gratuity in the restaurant with gift cards?

Yes, you are able to. As a matter of fact a couple of our waiters/waitresses took it upon them selves to charge our gratuity to our room. We like to pay in cash, so requested they had it removed, which they all did with no issue.

Are you then able to pay your room tab with gift cards? Or will the resort automatically charge my CC that's on file?

You can pay with GCs. The resort won't charge your CC until you either hit the spending limit (value - $500, mod - $1000, Deluxe - $1500 I believe) or check out.

You could go down the front desk everyday or every couple of days and pay the charge balance with your GCs if you prefer. I don't believe they'll put the GCs on your account for charging privileges though.

Will the waitstaff give us something at the end if the meal to fill out noting the amount of gratuity we want to leave? (We are doing many character meals)

Yes. They'll bring you a receipt like you would get anywhere else. It'll show the cost of each meal/order but at the bottom the balance due will be $0. From there, you'd just fill out the tip line and there will be suggested amounts on the bottom as well.

We've never done room charging, but I have paid gratuities with a gift card and it worked out great :thumbsup2.

How exactly do the gratuity amounts work?
We'll be arriving in August (4 of us) and have the dining plan.
I assume a bill where we have nothing extra would be $0.
Does it calculate the actual bill size - and give a suggested amount (is it 18% now?)?
If we had extras, I assume that amount would just be added to the other 'theoretical' amount and the gratuity would be calculated against that amount?
Do you actually write the amount of your gratuity - and it can just be charged to your room?
I have no problems with gratuities (18% is high compared to UK levels..) as long as the service is good. If you're not particularly enamoured by the service, are you still free to leave a lower amount or is that really bad? Speaking of 'really bad', what if the service was really bad - are you still obliged to leave one anyway? Hopefully that will never happen though!!

Thanks!

The bill will list the prices you would have paid If not on the dining plan and lists the calculated 18 and 20% amounts for reference. Tipping is supposed to be based off of the cash price of the meals

For any group six and over, there is an automatic 18% tip that is charged. We usually tip 20% so it is really no big deal to us, but to some, it can be a shell shock.
Figure up the estimated tip for each meal before you go so that you have an idea. Most tips for a family of four adults run between $30-$50 a meal.
