We are going on the DCL cooking class excursion in Cozumel. First time at this port so no idea what to expect. Any suggestions for getting some Pesos for tipping? I would assume US dollars is rude, but maybe not? I just want to be able to be a polite visitor
Also while I’m here- what’s the current suggested tip for room service?

Cozumel is such a tourist destination, I am sure, as a tip, US dollars would be accepted and not an insult. If you are only in Mexico for a few hours, getting a few pesos from an ATM is probably not worth the effort.

Room Service. I usually do a base of $3 to $5 and add an additional $1 per item. So chicken soup and a sandwich I’d give between $5 ($3 + 2 items at $1 each) and $7 ($5 pled 2 items at $1 each). I’m sure you’ll get lots of different answers on this!

US dollars are accepted and appreciated in Cozumel.

Something to note (that I didn’t realize when we booked our excursion) is that depending won which your you do, there can be multiple opportunities to tip. We did the Teauila, Chocolate and Honey tour and there were more than 5 times we could have tipped - each stop (sometimes more than one place at a stop), the tour guide and bus driver.

Just something to consider.

I bring lots of $1’s and $5’s. Kind of a novelty these days, having cash. I have seen buskers with QR code signs.

The big "tip" on tipping here on this forum when I joined 20+ years ago was to bring $2 bills with you for tipping.

We did this on several cruises last year, I think some of the crew thought they were fake.

When we do excursions in Cozumel, or anywhere, we try to tip $20 per person. We tip in US dollars.

Yeah, when I went to the bank to get $2 bills the 20ish teller looked at me like was crazy. She flagged down the manager who said they don't keep them on hand, but could order them and have them the next day. Teller said.....'I've never heard of a $2 bill". Sort of like $1 dollar coins. Despite getting Walmart on board........for a while they gave them in change instead of dollar bills......they have sort of faded away except in casinos and our vending machines at work took them and gave change in dollar coins.
