We're looking at taking our 2 year old grandson to Disney next year and I'm trying to prepare (them and us) for what to expect. Of course we'll carry their car seats to use, so will we need to be one grandparent/one child on one side of a row and the other grandparent/child on the other side?

Do I understand correctly that the child has to be in the window seat? Thanks for any information, I like to be prepared well in advance and plan accordingly.

Yes with flying the child need to be in the middle seat. You might want to sit instead of on the other side of the plane, you might want to be on the same side just in a row a head or behind you. This way you can both still participate with each child. It also allows for only one diaper bag and goody bag, instead of 2. If you were on each side of the plane, you would probably have to be handing things across 1 to 2 other people. With the set up I suggested, it is just handing things over the seats to each other.

I suggest with the boys being so young, that they take some sort of antihistamine about an hour before take off. This will help with the pressure on their ears and make for a happier child.

I have flown with a set of 13 month old twins and a 2.5 year old and it is very doable with a bit of planning.

If possible, I would have one wait with the boys until close to the end of boarding, and the other go and set up the car seats ahead of the other one. This cuts down on the time the children are strapped in and helps with not holding up others while waiting for everything and all the kids to be strapped in.

No, the car seat needs to be at the window, unless you are flying in a two aisle plane; then the car seat can be in the center of the middle row.

If the boys are 2 or older, you might want to consider checking the car seats (if you will need them later) and use the plane's seatbelts or CARES harnesses.

Sorry, Thanks for correcting me. I did mean the window seat.

in May. We flew SWA so I put DH on 1 ressie with Early Bird Check In and myself & DGS on another without EBCI (family boarding). DH got on and installed the car seat. When DGS and I boarded, we put him right into his seat, stowed the diaper bag & were all set. We brought a sippy cup, his pacifier (still uses it to sleep) and small lollipops for him to suck on during takeoff but he didn't have any issues with ear pain. Fell asleep 10 min after takeoff (I deliberately booked a flight during his usual nap time) and didn't wake up til we got to the gate! With 2 carseats, this might be more difficult but I thought he was more comfortable in the carseat, his usual mode of transportation, even if it isn't required. DH moaned & complained about what a pain dragging the seat was gonna be but I got a small foldable luggage cart & it was easy to roll. DH was glad in the end. He was very comfy & well behaved (as was my DGS LOL!!) during the flight.

We also brought a portable dvd player which he used for a while on the flight home.
