Our son picked Disney as his 13th B-day gift :cake: his problem is to stay at the Contemporary (concierge) or Old Key West (grand villa)

Little info: this will be his 23rd trip to Disney, we've stayed at the Contemporary before (twice) Never have stayed at OKW, we never get a rental car and we're worried that OKW is to spread out and a little out of the way.

There will be just the 4 of us, any comments would be
appreciated.
Thank-you
Jim

P.S. yes... I do know, it's not a bad problem to have. :thumbsup2

I'd get a 2 bedroom at OKW so the kids can each have their own bed in their own room and everyone can share the fun in the huge kitchen/living room and porch. You and DH can enjoy that big king sized bed and nice jacuzzi in your room, and it will be a "special" trip for EVERYONE! Not sure why you want a grand villa unless you and your spouse don't want to share a bed. An OKW grand villa has two queen sized beds, two full sized beds, one king sized bed, a queen sized pull out in the living room and 4 bathrooms including the huge master. Heck, even the laundry room in the unit is big enough for a bedroom! The two bedroom at OKW will have two queens in the second bedroom plus the king in the master and a queen pull out in the living room. Seems like plenty of room.

What a tough choice. Privacy and space or Conciege and convience.

I would go Concierge for his birthday.

I would vote for concierge but I think it depends if you will utilize the lounge or do you really need the space. How much time are you spending at the resort. I have always loved Contemporary concierge and would not do OKW without a car.

Not sure why you want a grand villa

That was my thought. A grand villa is overkill for 4 people IMHO. Very nice but not worth the extra expense.

Any DVC two-bedroom will serve you well. Just ask for a dedicated two-bedroom and you should get two queen beds in the second room.

As for chosing between the two, I'm more a fan of my own kitchen and laundry over anything concierge gives me. Contemporary is a nice location for MK and EPCOT though.

As for reliance on bus service, well I stay at SSR (down the river from OKW) and frequently leave my van parked while I hop on the busses. OKW is a little more remote feeling and spread out but as long as you near the Hospitality House you won't notice.

Maybe they want the GV so the kids can each have their own room? I notice that the kids are a boy and a girl ... although if they are talking about all being in one room at Contemporary, then maybe this isn't an issue?

If you have a car, OKW will be awesome for you.

I guess you need to decide between something you've done, and know you love, or trying something new.

Have fun, either way!

If it's a birthday trip, Contemporary hands down. It's closer to the parks for the most part, and it's much more convenient. OKW does seem really spread out in comparison. Not to mention, how much time will you be spending at the resort anyway?

I understand if you want OKW so that the kids can have their own bedrooms. However, this is really unnecessary if you'll be out and about for the most part. Even two-bedrooms have a living room if one wants to get away from the other sleeping in one of the bedrooms. We stayed in a BCV 2-bedroom for my hs graduation trip. We did consider staying at one of the deluxe resorts. However, because I brought a friend it was nice to have the separate bedroom from my parents. We weren't even in the room that much. Every night we went somewhere to see the nighttime shows/dinner. The afternoons we spent by the pool.

I hope this helps. Have an awesome trip! :)

I think a 2 br or GV at OKW would be perfect. The OKW villas are huge. The transportation there is excellent. We have stayed at OKW and we never have a car at WDW. It doesn't feel spread out to DW and I, it just feels very homey.

We've stayed in a 2 bed at OKW and Contemporary Concierge and Contemporary would win for us. We love OKW, it's a great resort and getting around without a car is no problem. The space in a 2 bed is great and it's lovely having all the facilities but Contemporary Concierge for us is special. We love the whole feel of the place and being that close to MK is a big plus.

:thumbsup2 I would like to thank everyone for their input, I understand that the Grand Villa would be an overkill but, your only 13 once.
(you can be 29 multiple times, but not 13):rotfl2:

Actually, we are going with the (concierge) at the polynesian.

Thanks again Jim & Jason
