Planning a trip for 2017 and it would be much easier to have a grand villa for everyone but didn't know if they rent these on cash or only points. It would be great if they split the cost between points and cash. Anyone know if they do rent them on a cash basis or if they split the cost?

Thanks!

The only way to "split the cost" would be for part of the nights to be on cash, and part on points. You cannot mix points and cash on any one night or any one rez. It is possible to have a cash rez for x nights and a DVC points rez for x points and have the 2 rez's linked.

Grand villas are few and far between. Generally speaking there may be some here and there in developer inventory, but if they are there for cash they usually go fast. Are you a DVC member?

I know Disney does not offer an option to use both points and cash. Wish they did! Pretty sure you can pay cash for GV, but I'd think they are hard to get and very pricey. We've done combos of 2bd and studios in the past instead of GV, but we'll be trying to get one with points in fall 2016.

We rented points for our first OKW GV in 2011...loved it so much bought resale points...but the rental wasn't cheap for what we paid, it was almost 1/2 of the resale purchase price. Still it would be much cheaper to rent than purchase the unit from disney on a daily basis.

Maybe I'm wrong, but when I'm checking Disney cash reservations on Disneyworld.com, I usually don't even see the grand villas listed. Usually the room types that are sold out are still listed but just say unavailable. But the grand villas I never even see on there, so I'm guessing those are mostly points only. If they were offered, the price would be astronomical, probably similar to the bungalow cash list prices of $2000-$3000 per night.

I changed my mind. In the past 12 months I don't think you have been able to get a GV on a cash reservation. Although even two years ago you could.

I've also never seen any cash DVC reservations for Grand Villas. I think the largest rooms for cash on the Disney website are 2 BR's. However, there are several places that can rent you enough DVC points for a Grand Villa (David's, DVC Rental store, etc). There are reviews of these on Disboards to help you choose which to go with, but I think the price is about the same. Through rental companies the going rate is about $14pp if you are booking < 7 months out, or $16 pp to book over 7 months out. The David's website has a great points calculator that shows the # of points required for a specific reservation, and the equivalent if you were to pay in cash.

You could also try to rent through Disboards on the rent/trade board. You might get a better deal than rental companies, but it could take a bit more effort. If you rent from another member I think those points could be transferred into your member account, but make sure you understand any booking restrictions. For example, I don't think those points can be banked? Probably only an issue if your plans fall through but it's steep to rent a villa so probably good to know any restrictions if you go this route.

I rented from a wonderful person...11 months out. I had to pay 100% within 30 days of the original reservation being made. It is a leap of faith, but you need to realize it's a done deal...no cancellations are normally allowed.

Thanks everyone! Yes we are DVC members but don't have anywhere near the points to do the ressie for a week. I will have to talk to DH about renting and see what he says. It's always worried me cuz you never know what might happen and then your out of luck. I had a hunch that the villas didn't go for cash because they never show up on the Disney site.
