Grand Villa advice

I won't repeat the sad story of DH losing his job (on Community Board, prayers needed sub-folder). Just suffice it to say I need advice on how to sell our OKW Grand Villa ressie for 12/4 -12/9. I called DVC today and found out if those units were available on those dates they would go for almost $1200/night! ($1193 is price with tax included).
With no income, no unemployment, and no idea when he will get a job that will pay our bills and give us health insurance, this seems to me the only stopgap between us and the poorhouse. I don't use eBay and never believed in commercial reselling of ressies, but in this circumstance I need to think of how to get the most out of this ressie.

If you don't have selling advice, prayers are always appreciated.

Cheers,
Pixie

Instead of selling the ressie, why not bank the points and maybe rent them? It might be easier than selling an existing ressie that is nearly 6 months away.

I agree. Either that or maybe you could try to rent out the entire ressie on the Rent/trade board...just post your total price for the entire already existing ressie...you're far enough out that if you don't have any bites on it you could still use the plan of cancelling the ressie and then renting the points out for a new ressie....though not sure of your banking deadlines and how they may fall into play and it may be quite difficult to secure a ressie no matter where or what size unit if they are still looking to rent for early Dec. and diane may be right :scratch

If your banking deadlines allow maybe you could try to rent the whole ressie first though and if no bites go to plan B :confused3

Hmm...not sure I was much help here :guilty: I truely wish you all the best though and my prayers are with you and your family.

I agree, cancelling the ressie and re-renting the points may be the best option for you. I don't think you will find anyone that is ready to spend $7000 for 6 nights in a GV but I could be wrong.

You could always post the rental, or try Ebay for a week or 2 and then cancel. Of course, as mentioned, pay attention to your banking deadlines to make the most of your chances to rent.

I lost my job last summer, and every time I thought we were up the proverbial creek, something came through for us, until I was able to get 5 different job offers in late August.

Think positive.

My prayers are with you and your family...

I was surprised that retail value was so much higher than renting the points. When I first tried to get this for my MIL's dream, I think they had no idea of the retail value of what I was offering them, but they did not even seem thrilled at the point value.
I would have to try and get as much out of it as possible, obviously. Does anyone know of an online link to the floorplan of the Grand Villa? I emailed my brother since he knows some "wealthy" people, and he asked for links (although doesn't hold out much hope that he'll be able to help).

Thanks :)

P.S. Tramp, I'm having faith that things will somehow work out to keep our heads above water. One thing I am counting on is "divine inspiration." :)
I think that made me think of this ressie as a resource, and also today I remembered this temporary job they fill in DH's department, a travel coordinator for their fall events, and suggested he ask them to hire him instead of a stranger for that. He said it pays $20/hr., so if he got a lot of hours it would almost be as much as his salary was!

I would attempt to sell the ressie first on the Rent/Trade Board. People are screaming for that week and can't get it. They may not all be Grand Villa folks but someone may be!

I don't think there is a lot of chance of getting rack rate for the ressie, but at maybe $12/point or better you could get something out of it.

Thoughts and prayers to you.
