GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

Since this seems to be the active Covid thread, I’ll ask here, even if it’s a little off topic.

I was just reading this. If there isn’t a belief we can get herd immunity because immunity doesn’t last long enough, how will a vaccine be different? I’m not being snarky, I truly don’t understand the science. Is there a way a vaccine could give longer immunity, where it ould be an annual vaccine like the flu shot?

(also understanding this guy is talking about coronviruses in general, not specific to Covid).

I am no expert or a doctor, but my thought was it would be annual like the flu shot.

The whole point of a vaccine is to provide the body with antibodies that can bind and neutralize a very specific and unique part of a foreign pathogen, the epitope of antigen.
A naturally derived antibody is generally better for long term prospects. Titer levels and seroprotection (the response) is higher. But, that doesn’t mean a well researched vaccination is not effective. And, viruses can evolve slightly all the time, and so a booster or new vaccine can be necessary. Subsequent infections should be less severe. We don’t know what extent of repeated infection there is with the virus at hand. But, we do know that titer levels wane beginning ~3 months for asymptomatic/less severe patients based on limited study results.

Having said this, and I’ve repeated it many times on the boards here....the idea of herd immunity for this virus right now is incredibly ridiculous.
I don’t mean to point out your comment. I just wish people stopped talking about herd immunity as if they’re some kind of epidemiologist.

I'm not sure if I believe that paying for it is an issue. We've been hearing about concerns over paying for debt since the early 80's yet we spend more and money.

Classic.
Ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away.
The national debt in 1980 was $1T and 32% of GDP. Currently, the debt is $26T and 110% of GDP. Just let that sink in.
We’ve been printing and borrowing more and more, especially in the last 10 years.
One of the reasons why we can continue unabated is because countries have trusted the dollar. But, that could not be the case one day. You can only continue to print money and take out loans so much before people start questioning your credit or the bubble pops.

The governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut announced a requirement for travelers from 9 states to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in their states. The advisory applies to Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah and Texas. It begins tonight at midnight.

Are people from NY, NJ, CT going to cancel their WDW trips since they will be quarantining when they get home?

This shouldn’t matter for the work from home crowd.

And you want your employees to take vacation and destress. It makes them more productive. They just need to follow their HR guidelines and let their boss know.

I do expect Disney cancellations to go up as some people won’t want to waste their vacation on quarantine in FL.

They'll also be quaranting when they arrive in FL and it won't be on WDW property.

Just saw on fb that all FL bars are banned from selling alcohol for on site consumption effective immediately. Not sure if its true.....

The gov of FL has said numerous times he will not order a shut down. I guess this is his way of forcing folks to stop gathering. He also has said he will not "roll back" on Disneys opening. I don't know what he is thinking,

The economy. Personal responsibility. Mostly young people. I’m sure you can take those items and create some spin.

Disney could choose to delay reopening if they wanted to.

Florida has almost 9,000 new cases today. NINE THOUSAND.

It's incredibly irresponsible for Disney to move forward with re-opening the parks. And Universal and any other parks should shut down. Encouraging people to travel to a county that has a rampant outbreak is going to infect people there, many asymptomatically, and then send them back home to seed new outbreaks across the country.
