GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

This is my biggest worry. We are just now starting to be able to do things again (I ate outside at a restaurant last week for the first time since March!) and I would hate to see us pushed back to where we were earlier in the spring.

In New York, if you bring COVID back here from Florida or anywhere, the governor has shut off the state insurance paying for your medical care.

Can you provide a link to that?

I understand the reasoning, but find it highly unethical. There isn’t a travel ban to every state, so how can they do that if it’s not against any rule?

What??? Is that true? Thats outrageous if true.

I don't understand how that's outrageous. Why would an insurance company have to pay if you put yourself in a position where you are at a high level of risk? I couldn't get full coverage while pregnant if I traveled at 8 months. I won't have coverage now unless our travel advisory is lifted.

Because the quote I quoted said traveling anywhere. As it’s not against the rules, it’s unethical. If it were just hotspots, maybe. If it was just leisure travel, maybe. But not all travel, anywhere, for any reason.

But it doesn’t matter as the person has come back and corrected what it actually was, which sick leave. And that is seems totally fair.

ETA:hot spots meaning those states on the travel ban list.

The word “lockdown” seems to pop up once in a while still. Not sure why because we NEVER had a lockdown in this country. Far from it. A lockdown is what happened in Wuhan, China. I can only imagine the outcry we would have when some place in the US even remotely considers coming close to doing that.

We came fairly close to it in New York. Most of us didn't leave our homes for weeks for anything other than groceries, emergency work or solo exercise.

Makes sense. I'm not really aware of how insurance works in the US...My medical travel insurance is suspended indefinitely.

That’s called shelter in place. Was the same in many other parts of the country.

Lockdown in China looked like this:
  • No travel in and out of the area
  • Cannot leave home except for grocery and medical reasons (no work)
  • Only one family member can go get groceries once every 2 days
  • Must check out and check in when leaving home to get grocery or medicine
  • If purchasing even OTC medicine, you must provide personal ID so the store can keep a record
  • Government officials can come by to do health surveys

Being able to use paid sick leave as opposed to unpaid or vacation time is quite different than your medical bills not covered by the health insurance.

Not only that I'm not sure how you could prove that you got it from x place for everyone that leaves NY boundaries. Look at the athletes who are testing positive after they arrived in FL. Like that wouldn't make sense IMO to say brought it back from FL or anywhere else. You could have gotten it in NY, traveled, went back to NY, and got tested after. Wouldn't that be quite the situation to arise. I sure hope he wouldn't penalize his citizens for getting it in their home..

Lot of private businesses place restrictions on whether time away from the office is paid leave or not so this doesn't seem all that out of the ordinary. it would however be that your medical care was not covered in terms of bills.

Also several European countries had lockdowns like this, France, Spain, Italy. I believe Melbourne, Australia is now in a very similar lockdown to above list. I am only not sure about the last two bullet points..
