Has anyone ever been Grand Marshalls in any of the parades? I was just wondering, how do you get picked? I have always wanted to be in a Disney parade!! ::MickeyMo

I was wondering this myself. Are there any tips to share or is it all luck?

Be at the right place at the right time. Make conversation with CMs, especially if they have a clipboard with them. Look like you are having the best time in the world!

We were grand marshals of the Share a Dream Come True parade in January 2003. It is pure Disney magic and pixie dust! We went to Magic Kingdom shortly after opening (not at rope drop) and were checking out the ride board and talking to a cast member named Robin. After a few minutes, she asked us if we were staying for the afternoon parade. We said yes, we hadn't seen it yet. She asked where we thought was the best place to see the parade - we started to tell her our "secret" spot, when she said - nope, the best place is in front of the parade - would you like to be our grand marshals today?

It was a fantastic experience. We got mickey ears with our names on them. We rode in Uncle Walt's stage coach with another couple, waved, people took our pictures like we were famous. Robin took pictures with our cameras along the route, and at the end, we had a special place to watch the parade and received a certificate to prove it had really happened.

What was especially cool was we were there celebrating our 25th anniversary - Robin didn't know that when she asked us, so that increased the pixie dust quotient!!!

Bottom line is you can't plan it - it just happens.

We were also Grand Marshalls in the Magic Kingdom parade in January 2003 (I think it was 2003!) We were just at the right place at the right time. We were gathering autographs around the hub and CM Robin
Lin-CM Robin approached us, and said the exact same thing about watching the parade in front too. Isn't that funny? Must be her "catch phrase". :) It was so fun, we would do it again in a heartbeat (not that we will ever get that wonderful chance again, I am sure!).
I am going to try to post the picture that was taken. I was so bummed, we had just gotten our digital camera at Christmas and hadn't quite figured it out, so out picture was of very poor quality. I will always have it set and "high" quality from now on!

We were grand marshals this past April for my husband's 40th birthday. His only request was -- no presents, I just want to try to be the grand marshal in the Magic Kingdom on my birthday. Before we left I emailed and phoned anybody connected with Walt Disney World... each time I was told that Grand Marshals were picked at random and it would just be lucky if you were picked.

We must have had alot of pixie dust on our side.... we spoke to the right person at the right time... here is a picture of us "backstage" putting on our ears to be the Grand Marshals. It was a memory to last a lifetime...

Who and where did you speak to someone at the right time? I need some pixie dust for our October trip!!! :wizard:

By pure chance had a nice chat with a CM on Main St about half an hour or so after opening.
I never have seen this CM again, and we have kept out eyes open for him. We wanted to thank him personally.

After that perfect trip  when I returned home I wrote a letter to Lee Cockerell and WDW in general. I received a handwritten note and a special pin in the mail from Lee.
It pays to praise too. :cloud9:

I know it takes luck and a lot of pixie dust to be a Grand Marshal...but I have to admit, I would like to try on our upcoming trip! This will be the first trip for my DH2B and I. We're planning to go to the MK the day after we are married (we're getting married at Disney's Sea Breeze Point) and I just think it would be too cool to get to do this!!! :flower:

If you want to increase your chances of being grand marshals in a parade at the Magic Kingdom, here is my advice: Be there early in the morning... be one of the happiest families there... speak to any cast member that approaches you...and hope that you have enough pixie dust in your favor. There are no other secrets than "being in the right place at the right time" - or win the MVP of the Superbowl!!! Keep your eyes open on Main Street, because I think that's where the Grand Marshals are picked from (at least that's where we were picked from). Good luck!!
