I want to know if anyone has traded to the Grand Hotel or Sagamore. If so, which rooms do we get and are all extra cost included in the trade. I noticed that in the Grand most of the room are small interior room and prices are per person. If you have 4 per room it was a very lot of money. It was about 185 per person for a double so I would guess it would be 185x4 with 4 in a room. I am just thinking about a trade to either and wanted to know the details if anyone knows. I also noticed there is a II trade to a place very close to the Grand. Is that a good option?
Thanks

Hi fellow DVC member,

I traded out to the Sagamore two years ago for our family vacation. The Sagamore is beautiful and so is Lake George. I would go back there again. The only downside is the hotel to eat at is very expensive. We ended up going into town several times for our meals which worked out well. The cost was reasonable and the food was good.

We stayed in a large two room condo. It had a kitchen, large livingroom with fireplace and pull out queen size sofa bed. Separate bedroom with two queen size beds and a bathroom. I thought the room was very nice for the points we used.

Good luck and I sure we will enjoy it.

You won't be disappointed if you go to the Sagamore. It is beautiful. The Lake is very clean and magnificently beautiful!

We've also traded to the Sagamore for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. The hotel was great and there was lots for our kids to do.

The Grand Hotel includes a extremely elegant five course dinner and a super breakfast for each person you are paying for. The views of the Mackinaw bridge and Lake Huron from the Grand Hotel are super and unmatched anywhere...

We stay at the Grand Hotel using points in 2001. I thought it was a wonderful use of points, since I doubt we would have stayed there paying cash.

The trade out was easy. I believe the room was 55 points per night. This includes breakfast and a five course dinner, but of which were great.

The room we got was outstanding!!!!!

We had a room with a king sized bed, a sitting area with a couch and two chairs, and a small area for coffee. The room was about 1/3 bigger then a studio at a DVC resort.

Our room was located on the lake side of the hotel and we had a view of the Mackinac Bridge.

The Grand Hotel provides transportation from the dock area to the Hotel, so you don't need to worry about that. You do have to pay for the ferry over to the island.

One more item that is interesting...The Grand Hotel discourages tipping of their staff members. This does save quite a bit of money.

All in all, we loved our experience at the Grand Hotel.

... you might check if you can pay with points only for the two people at the double rate, and then once you get there, you can see if you want to add on meals for your kids. We travelled with another couple who was staying at another resort on the island, and were able to buy them dinner tickets (for $75 each) for the main dining room. But with our kid, we appreciated the relatively unadvertised "casual" dining option there, which would have cost only about $5 for an extra kid or $20 for an extra adult, per night (paid guests can choose to substitute the casual option instead of the formal dining room; the casual restaurant is on the golf course and is very nice). We especially appreciated this option because IMHO the food was better at the casual place, because it was cooked-to-order rather than mass-produced for the 800 of us in the formal dining room. As for breakfast, we again shied away from the dining room after the first time and just ordered room service -- for an extra $5/person/day -- and were able to get everything the dining room had, plus share it.

the sagamore is a beautiful hotel with awesome scenery & a great spa...i would be careful about what season u pick to visit because lake george is a summer tourist area...unfortunately many shops close after labor day & it's a ghost town after columbus day...
